On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 236 of 237 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

Senator Malcolm Byrne may say that, but I will not have a go like that. I congratulate the Irish Aviation Authority, IAA, on the official opening yesterday of the brand new air traffic control tower in Dublin Airport. It was built due to a very significant investment by the State to facilitate the new runway, which will open in August. I congratulate the IAA on that. Perhaps the Deputy Leader would write to the Minister for Transport to ask exactly what is going on with the national car test, NCT, service. I went i…

Garda Síochána (Amendment) Bill 2022: Second Stage

I thank the Minister of State for his very comprehensive summary of the position we find ourselves in. I am conscious that the ruling is effective until 16 June, which is today. I know that once the Bill is passed, we will have an earlier signature motion to ensure it is enacted straight away. I do not want to delay the Bill at all. The Minister of State has given us a very comprehensive outline of the position. I do not need six minutes to regurgitate everything about the complications and how this situation arose…

Garda Síochána (Amendment) Bill 2022: Committee and Remaining Stages

As somebody whose grandfather was a garda for almost all of his career a long time ago, I echo those comments. It is important the message go out from this House that we fully support our gardaí in everything they do in trying to keep our streets and communities safe. There is an element of parts of urban areas, in particular, that are not quite no-go zones but are heading in that direction, whereby people do not feel comfortable sometimes even in daytime but especially in the evening and when it is dark, if not so…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

I pay tribute to former Senator and councillor, Mary Jackman, who died during the week. It is my first opportunity to do so on the Order of Business. I was a councillor for 12 and a half years and I regularly met Mary at various conferences, often travelling with her sister. She was always great company and an absolute lady. I think she spent almost 30 years on Limerick City and County Council and a couple of terms in the Seanad. I pay tribute to her. I found her to be an engaging human being and a really nice lady…

Protection of the Native Irish Honey Bee Bill 2021: Second Stage

Does that conclude Senator Ó Donnghaile's contribution?

I thank the Senator. Before I bring in Senator Kyne I welcome to the Public Gallery former Senator Sean Barrett and his guest, László Molnárfi from Hungary. They are joining us and observing our proceedings. They, along with our other guests, are very welcome. It is good to see them all here for this debate.

Protection of the Native Irish Honey Bee Bill 2021: Second Stage

It is always nice to chair a debate where everyone is on the same side and there is not too much controversy in the room. Senator Ahearn wishes to contribute. Unfortunately, he will not be able to get a response from the Minister of State, given that she can only speak once, but he can certainly put his thoughts on the record. Before he does, though, I welcome to the Gallery a person I knew a long time ago when he was in university. He is back now and helping with this legislation, namely, Mr. Donnchadh Woulfe. He …

Next is Senator Maria Byrne. I cannot say yet whether she will be a supporter of the Bill, but I imagine she is.
