On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 983 of 987 decisive votes (2 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Confidence in the Minister for Justice: Motion

I support this motion of confidence in my colleague, the Minister, Deputy Helen McEntee. It is very easy for the Opposition to say that the Minister and the Garda should have known that a major public order incident was going to break out in Dublin city centre, but how could they? How could they foretell the malign intent of some people that led them to incite a riot, especially following a tragedy where children and their care worker were so brutally attacked in the middle of the day? Gardaí have successfully poli…

Policing, Protests and Public Order: Statements

I welcome the opportunity to speak this afternoon following the appalling events in Dublin city centre last week. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the brutal attack at Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire on Parnell Square. But make no mistake, the looting of shops, the burning of vehicles and the attacks on gardaí had nothing to do with honouring the victims of that assault. The riot was fuelled by hate and thuggery and there are elements within our society who have come to the fore in recent times: nasty, f…

I thank the Deputy for the question. He is correct that there have been more than 50 overdoses in the Dublin area since Thursday of last week. They were associated with the use of heroin that was adulterated with nitazines, which are potent, synthetic opioids. Naloxone is distributed by the HSE. I commend the members of the HSE in the Dublin region who are on the front line, such as outreach workers, ensuring the message regarding this toxic drug gets out. People are being assisted by hospital emergency departments…
