That is just so the Deputy understands it.
On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 1,031 of 1,042 decisive votes (3 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.
This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

That is just so the Deputy understands it.
I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 37 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Colm Burke - to discuss the need for a peer review system for psychiatrists in the Irish mental health services; (2) Deputy Brendan Griffin - the review of south Kerry child and adolescent mental health services, CAMHS; (3) Deputy Gary Gannon - to discuss the lack of affordable medicine for pregnant people suffering with hyperemesis in Ireland; (4)…
The Minister of State, Deputy Butler, is the Minister for everything tonight. In July 2019, Irish Rail downgraded Bagenalstown train station to an automatic station. Since then, there has been no stationmaster on site and the maintenance of the station has been subcontracted out. In July 2017, this same station was deemed so beautiful that An Post captured it in a commemorative stamp. It was great to see the building on a commemorative stamp. The beautiful stone station, which was designed by the architect Mr. Sanc…
I thank the Minister of State for her response. I compliment Iarnród Éireann on the lifts at Carlow railway station. It was important that they were installed. It is now 2022 and they were a long time coming but I welcome that investment. I also appreciate that the car parking facilities at the station are being looked at but I am seeking clarity on Bagenalstown station. It was wheelchair users who came to me about this. They felt it was unfair that they could not access the toilets in the railway station. We have …
I also have the same question. The survivors were very upset over the leak of the report into mother and baby homes. I would like to know where we are today in the investigation of that leak. People want closure. I ask that we get that out to people. There is a very significant issue here with communication and I know how committed the Taoiseach is to this. The other issue I wish to address, and I was glad he raised it, is the 22 recommendations, the redress and the medical cards. These are so important for survivo…
I have had several meetings with the Taoiseach about women's refuges. Carlow is one of the nine counties in Ireland without a women's refuge. I know how committed the Taoiseach is to this. I have tried to get through to different agencies about this and I have spoken to Tusla. I ask that the review is reported as soon as possible so that we know what is happening and which areas will and will not have a refuge. Carlow urgently needs a women's refuge. I thank the Taoiseach for speaking to me about this issue a numbe…
I am very happy to see us returning to normal. As we see the pandemic in the past, evidence is emerging of another pandemic: one in mental health. We need inclusive and responsive mental health services. I welcome the energy the Minister of State has brought to this matter. I know she is prioritising mental health. I am fully aware of the work she is doing. This year will see another record budget of €1.15 billion for mental health, an increase of €47 million on 2021. That specific funding is to enhance child and a…
We need a sustainable housing system and we need legislation like this. We also need to develop a culture of good practice and compliance with building regulations in the system in order that the general public can benefit. We need to do that to give confidence to the public and eliminate cowboy builders from the industry. People visit my clinics to raise issues relating to their homes. We need to ensure that people know their homes are built to the highest standards and that any professional services they use are …
I too am in agreement. I thank the Minister of State, Deputy Chambers, for coming to Carlow and meeting several groups that are looking for funding. I have received lots of phone calls and emails asking when the funding will be announced. I ask that it be announced as quickly as possible. This is about the community. This is about survival. Particularly after Covid, this grant will make such a difference. It is also important that women in sport who apply are looked after because we have to make sure they get their…
We are now going to the Independent Group and Deputies Pringle and Harkin have 20 minutes.
We are going to debate gender-based violence later but I wish to send my condolences to the family of Ashling Murphy and to the women of Ireland. It has been horrific for us all. On the subject of women's refuges, County Carlow has no women's refuge. It is one of nine counties that does not have a women's refuge. The review paused during Covid but reactivated in September 2020 and was expected to be finished in April 2021 but we have had no word on that review. I ask the Taoiseach to get the review done so the like…
Since 1996, 244 women have been murdered by men in Ireland. The Minister said Ashling Murphy's fatal assault must be the watershed moment. I know the Government is determined to tackle this issue. The Minister herself said she is taking action for change. According to Safe Ireland, when Ireland was at the height of its second level 5 lockdown, more than 2,180 women and 600 children received support from a dedicated domestic violence service. This is an increase of 40%. The lack of refuge places and transitional hou…
As we all know, for decades there have been blockages to accessing birth information but those blockages will be removed by this legislation. We need to clarify matters here tonight because there is a lot of misinformation coming from the Opposition. We need to sort this because it is not proper for wrong information to go out from this House, as happened with regard to the mother and baby homes issue, when some Deputies claimed that the files were sealed away. They were not sealed away but that information went ou…
We need to find a balance here. The Opposition has said things that are not true. The Minister has worked really hard on this. I have been on the children's committee and I have worked like the Chair, Deputy Funchion and Deputy Bacik. But if we give out wrong information it is not good for anyone.
Not one of the Opposition mentioned the funding of €1 million extra going to the Adoption Authority of Ireland and €3 million to Tusla. Are we in a position tonight where we only want to be negative?
All right. Thank you.
Absolutely. You went on every radio programme for days about it. That is what you do.
We did not seal away anything.
We did not seal the files. We protected the files.
We protected the files.
