I appreciate that.
On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 634 of 639 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.
This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

I appreciate that.
I accept that, but it is extravagant in itself to link climate change to the murders. There is a need for a debate. I agree with what Senator Mullen says about how we can frame a debate in terms of agreeing or disagreeing. I appreciate that our hands are tied and I will not put you on the spot, a Chathaoirligh.
I am not making any slur.
But I do think we should have a debate on the bigger picture and about the persecution of Christians. We should condemn the killings of all people of faith, regardless of their denomination, across the world. I rise predominantly to ask the Deputy Leader about an issue that I raised two weeks ago. The leaving certificate, leaving certificate applied and junior certificate classes of 2022 are now in the middle of their exam period but they have not yet got a date for their exam results to be released. That is unacce…
People are also allowed to drive a car if they have applied for and are awaiting the test.
Everybody else can debate it bar us.
The Minister for Education is hiding.
It is part of Duhallow, with great footballing prowess.
We will see you in Croke Park in four weeks when we will beat the Dubs.
I will be as brief as Senator Horkan. I welcome the Minister of State and commend Government on its proactivity with this legislation. We all welcome the more efficient use of Garda resources. None of us thinks that attending court to prosecute every criminal offence makes sense. That is why this Bill is important. As Senator Horkan said, it must be done by 16 June. While the allocation of Garda resources is a matter for the Garda Commissioner, in light of reports of joint policing committees in Dublin and, in part…
Now.
Since the Minister is here, I just want to make the point I made in my Second Stage contribution and echo the comments of Senator Wall. In this House, we should applaud the members of An Garda Síochána who were on the front line during Covid and performed heroically on behalf of all of us. The Upper House of the Oireachtas should acknowledge that. The Minister will know full well what I am going to say next. It is now incumbent on An Garda Síochána, working with the Department of Justice, to have a very high level …
I move: That, pursuant to subsection 2° of section 2 of Article 25 of the Constitution, Seanad Éireann concurs with the Government in a request to the President to sign the Garda Síochána (Amendment) Bill 2022 on a date which is earlier than the fifth day after the date on which the Bill shall have been presented to him.
I thank Senator O'Donovan for allowing me to share time with him. He is living the experience and has made two pertinent points about care and access to care. This is about quality of life for people and about access to service. There is a critical gap in the care of those with a neurological condition. The theme of the campaign is "Patients Deserve Better", which highlights the need for 100 specialist neurologists in nursing and is also about the four we have in Cork and the 16 needed to provide, as Senator O'Dono…
I concur with the remarks of Senator O'Donovan. I thank the Minister of State for his reply. It is inadequate in terms of the development of a tier 1 hospital that is the primary hospital for the southern region. The issue of neurology is gaining a cohort of people every day. We need a joined-up approach. This is about continuum of care and allowing people to go out from hospital knowing that if they need someone, there will be someone there for them on their return. Senator O'Donovan and I will keep up the battle …
The month of June, as we know, is Pride month. It is a month in which members of the LGBT community and our supporters, friends, allies and families celebrate and advocate on behalf of our community. It is about building an equal, inclusive and tolerant society where all members of society can play a part and, as Abraham Maslow said, can reach their full potential. I express my disappointment at the decision of RTÉ and Dublin Pride to part ways. I understand the decision taken by Dublin Pride and I seek a debate in…
The Tánaiste is very welcome. This is a very important day. The Bill is of enormous importance to workers. I welcome this. It is about the protection of workers and showing that Fine Gael, a party of government, is the party of the worker. The Tánaiste is right that this is the fifth piece of legislation he will introduce on workers' rights. I remind Opposition Senators that this Bill is building on legislation relating to paternity leave, parental leave benefit, enhanced maternity benefit, treatment benefit and th…
Hear, hear.
It is still tomorrow.
I thank the Minister for her presence. This is an important motion. At its core it is about people. Every one of us in the House understands the pain and frustration of people. The last thing we need is to come in here to engage in political gamesmanship and make accusations about this side of the House. Senator Gavan can look at me and put his video on the Sinn Féin TikTok machine all he wants. I understand. I live in the real world. In the real world people want action and they are getting action.
