On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 33 of 547 decisive votes (11 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Mother and Baby Homes Redress Scheme: Motion [Private Members]

I thank everybody who has been involved in the debate. I welcome the fact that the motion is not being opposed. Genuinely, the Minister and Minister of State have heard tonight that people want to work constructively. That is why we brought this motion forward. We want to highlight the issues. I imagine that Government Deputies, like everyone else, were inundated with people asking why they were excluded from the scheme. I do not believe that any Deputy, whether in opposition or in government, wants to exclude anyb…

National Ambulance Service: Motion [Private Members]

I wish to commend my colleague, Deputy Cullinane, on introducing the motion. Nowhere is it more evident how vital the National Ambulance Service is than in a rural community and constituency like my own. Nowhere are funding cuts, staff shortages, burnout and inadequate facilities more evident or more keenly felt than in rural communities. I know from the calls that I have received on this issue that the service is not fit for purpose in counties Carlow and Kilkenny. It is totally and utterly unfair to those who wor…

Farrelly Commission of Investigation Substantive Interim Reports: Statements

That there were systemic failures and shortcomings, a failure to monitor, review and supervise, that there were numerous and notable warning signs and that her case disappeared from view are just some of the devastating findings of the two interim reports of the Farrelly commission of investigation. Running to nearly 800 pages, the two interim reports map out in significant detail the breathtaking failures of a system that was meant to protect a vulnerable person. There have been reviews, investigations and a numbe…

Regional Transport Infrastructure: Motion [Private Members]

I thank my colleague, Deputy O'Rourke, for bringing this important motion forward. The constituency I represent, Carlow-Kilkenny, is a good mix of urban and rural. While it is a fantastic place to live and work we are certainly lacking public transport. It is an integral part of a functioning rural community and has an important role in reducing emissions, which we are all apparently in favour of, though when it comes to actual practice it is hard to know whether we are. As part of the recent budget, the young adul…

Autism Spectrum Disorder Bill 2017 [Seanad]: Second Stage [Private Members]

I will take the first five minutes anyway. I thank our colleagues in the Regional Group for bringing forward this motion. It is great when we have the opportunity to discuss all the issues around autism. In 2019, as some people may be aware if they were in the House at that time, we brought forward a motion on an autism strategy that got unanimous support. It included the setting up of a committee, so there could be consultation with various relevant groups within the sector. That is very important and cannot be un…
