On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 281 of 283 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.
This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

I am very proud to second this motion. Before I start, I acknowledge the work my colleague Senator Fitzpatrick has put into this but also Senator Ardagh, who cannot be here tonight, unfortunately, to second this motion. I am standing in her place. She has done an awful lot of work. She is a passionate supporter of Dr. Kathleen Lynn and like her is a former student of Alexandra College. I know the college is very proud of Dr. Lynn's legacy and is in full support of our motion tonight. That is really important to not…
A pat on the back for them.
The brass neck of it, though.
I am proud to stand here with my colleagues today and commend them on the work they have done on this extremely important Bill. IVF is a treatment for infertility. As my colleague, Senator O'Loughlin, has said, the WHO views infertility as a disease. IVF is quite an effective treatment for that disease but, unfortunately, IVF treatments have not been fully publicly funded and I hope that this Bill will move things along. This matter is something on which the Minister has engaged with both Senators Ardagh and O'Loug…
Now.
Now.
I congratulate the Minister and the officials on the passing of the Bill in the Seanad. It is a momentous day for them. I know how hard they have worked on it and how important it is, especially to patient advocates. We all know the names of patient advocates throughout the country. There was Vicky Phelan, of course, and other unfortunate victims of the CervicalCheck scandal. This is a very important day. I congratulate everybody involved. I hope this marks an important turning point in patient safety.
Cuirim fáilte roimh an Aire. He is always welcome to the Seanad and is one of our most frequent ministerial visitors, such is the pace of the work in the Department of Health, which includes the preparation of all the Bills he is bringing forward. This is a fantastic day. This short Bill is really significant for the people of Ireland. It speaks to the Minister's commitment, reflective of his core republican values, which are Fianna Fáil values, to the achievement of universal healthcare. The fees dealt with in the…
Next Thursday.
I welcome the Minister of State, Deputy Browne, to the Chamber. I thank him for coming to discuss this very important matter which is the issue of the lack of a women's refuge in north County Dublin. North County Dublin has the fastest growing population in the country. I am very lucky to live there and represent the area but there is an acute need for a women's refuge and an awful lot of other services in the area. The services that are there are severely under pressure, or in many instances, are not actually avai…
I thank the Minister of State for that response. I appreciate it. I know Fingal County Council is working with agencies to find the site and deliver this, and that the Housing Agency is linking in with it. I feel there is a role for the Department of Justice to co-ordinate this, in light of the domestic violence strategy. I am glad there will be extra spaces in Wexford, Dundalk and Navan delivered by the end of 2024. That is very important in the context of provision on the east coast because the population expansi…
I ask the Minister of State for clarification that the new agency he referred to, to be set up by the Minister, will fall under the remit of the Department of Justice.
I rise to discuss the imminent sale of Nazi memorabilia at auction in this country. I am sickened, horrified and shocked that such items are being offered for sale and that people will profit from the sale of items connected with the most murderous, disgusting and appalling regime that has ever been witnessed. Millions of Jewish people were murdered, tortured and terrorised, as were gay people, Roma people, those with disabilities and those with mental illness. They were targeted through a prolonged period and mill…
I thank the Minister for outlining this comprehensive Bill. I know he is not finished yet, and that this just gives a flavour of how wide ranging this comprehensive legislation is. It is very significant. It is a major step forward in health services provision in this country and in the interaction the public has with the health service. He has been committed to it since becoming the Minister for Health and I commend him on bringing such comprehensive legislation before us. There was significant debate on the Bill …
It is positive that we are having this debate. The citizens' assembly will hopefully be established as soon as possible and this very important issue will be discussed. It has been on the cards in these Houses for a number of years and I am glad the programme for Government prioritised it. Halfway through the Government term, it is about time to make progress on it. Citizens' assemblies play an important role in informing discussion. We have seen that in plenty of citizens' assemblies on very difficult issues that …
Gabhaim buíochas leis an Aire Stáit agus maidin mhaith dó. Tá áthas orm gur tháinig sé os comhair an tSeanaid chun an t-ábhar seo a phlé. Chuir mé an ní i dTosach Suíonna seo faoi bhráid an tSeanaid mar go bhfuil deis iontach ann don Rialtas céim a ghlacadh i dtreo chomhionannais sa Stát seo. Tá oidhreacht an-bhródúil ag an iar-Aire Sláinte, an Tánaiste, an Teachta Micheál Martin, leis an gcosc ar thobac a chaitheamh taobh istigh. Léirigh sé ceannaireacht iontach agus leanann an dea-shampla sin i go leor tíortha ar…
Tá an-díomá orm an méid sin a chloisteáil ón Aire Stáit. Tá sé seafóideach mar déanann tíortha eile, ar nós Ceanada agus gach tír eile le dhá theanga, an méid sin gan aon fhadhb. Tá sé maslach amach is amach má chloínn an Rialtas leis an gcinneadh sin. Is féidir leis an Aire athrú a dhéanamh ag an bpointe sin agus níl sé inghlactha go bhfuil an Rialtas ag smaoineamh ar chomhlachtaí móra. Is comhlachtaí móra don chuid is mó atá i gceist. Is comhlachtaí móra iad le buiséid an-mhór. Tá an t-uafás airgid acu. Tá sé ing…
Ag an bpointe sin, ní raibh Fianna Fáil ann. Tá meon an-dhifriúla ag mo pháirtí féin i leith na teanga.
