On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 18 of 321 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

I move: That leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to make provision for the control of fossil fuels and, for that purpose, to prohibit advertising of fossil fuels and fossil fuel undertakings and to provide for certain exemptions; to prohibit sponsorship by fossil fuel products and fossil fuel undertakings; to empower the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities to investigate and enforce provisions; and to provide for related matters.

Seachtain na Gaeilge: Ráitis

Gabhaim buíochas leis an Chathaoirleach Gníomhach. Tá brón orm ach níl Gaeilge mhaith agam. Táim ag foghlaim agus táim ar 349 ar Duolingo. B'fhéidir an bhliain seo chugainn go mbeidh mé ag caint fully as Gaeilge. Sinn Féin is committed to the restoration of Irish to use as a spoken language in communities nationwide and as a primary language of the Gaeltacht. Seachtain na Gaeilge provides a welcome opportunity to highlight our support for the Irish language and our policies to promote it while also drawing attentio…

Private Rental Sector: Motion

As my colleague said, the dire state of the private rental sector remains a crisis and the Government has failed to grasp it. Speaking to people when out on the doors, those in the private rental sector are fed up and frustrated and they do not have security of tenure. I also end up talking to the adult children living in their parents' homes about how desperate that situation is. We cannot ignore this. The facts are all there. You do not need to talk to people to know the truth. Rents across the country are ever-i…

Community Safety and Investment: Motion [Private Members]

I thank the Labour Party Seanad team for bringing this motion tonight. Sinn Féin has no problem in supporting its contents. We are all in agreement that the safety of the general public is the number one priority for any police service anywhere in the world. People's safety as they go about their daily lives is of paramount importance. It is the bedrock on which society harmoniously functions. For this to be achieved though, the Garda needs to be fully resourced to ensure its capacity is capable of delivering prote…

Building Regulations

Go raibh maith agat, agus fáiltím roimh an Aire Stáit. As the Minister of State will know, construction on the built environment accounts for 37% of Ireland's carbon emissions, and 14% of that is the embodied carbon emissions. Current analysis is showing we are not on target to reach our emissions reductions in this particular area. The Climate Change Advisory Council has expressed concern at the failure of the Department of housing to act on this particular target reduction. Tackling the embodied carbon in buildin…

Building Regulations

I thank the Minister of State for his response. We know that we do not have an awful lot of time to waste in terms of reaching our emissions targets. If we are waiting for the EU, by the time the energy performance of buildings directive and construction products regulation is actually agreed and transposed into Irish legislation we will have probably already missed our 2030 targets. What we want to see is an urgency from the Department. We did not get that when it appeared before the Oireachtas climate committee. …
