On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 748 of 752 decisive votes (3 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Island Communities

I was not expecting this question to be reached. Perhaps the Minister was not either. The one thing Waterford does not have is an island. Perhaps the Minister of State, Deputy O'Brien, would like to donate one of the Cork ones; I somehow doubt it. Can the Minister imagine being on an island tonight? It is a precarious existence out there and it needs our support. What is the status of the ten-year, cross-departmental policy for island development, and associated action plans to ensure delivery of the policy, as out…

Island Communities

The committee on social protection, of which I am a member, also covers this part of the Minister's brief, that is, community and rural affairs and the islands. Islanders often feel they have been tagged on to the end of the departmental line. One of the representatives who spoke to our committee referenced a programme that was on TG4 Player, "Inis Airc: Bás Oileáin", which is about the leaving of Inishark. We must acknowledge that the way of life that exists on the islands is precious but also marginal. It is diff…

Island Communities

The Minister has acknowledged that the policy's development has to be interdepartmental because it must cover housing, education and the Gaeltacht. The islanders deserve the House's attention and I welcome her comments.

I thank the Deputy. We are out of time.

The Deputy's time is up.

Misuse of Drugs

The Minister of State, Deputy Butler, is on her feet and I would be glad to hear her answer.

Primary Care Centres

A number of Deputies are not present. We will move to Deputy Carey.

Primary Care Centres

I had not been informed of that. With Deputy Carey's agreement we will move to Deputy Calleary.

Hospital Overcrowding

Deputy Griffin is going to come in with a supplementary question.

CC 2021-12-03 · Dail
Hospital Overcrowding

Quite a bit of latitude has been given in terms of putting the question in the first place, Deputy Griffin, to be fair. I am afraid our time for that question has elapsed. Perhaps the Minister will reply to Deputy Carey in writing, if he can.

Healthcare Infrastructure Provision

We have skipped a question and are on to No. 106.

Healthcare Infrastructure Provision

The Deputy has put his question. Perhaps we can allow the Minister to give his answer. The Deputy will then have two further opportunities to come in.

The Deputy should allow the Minister to answer.

Healthcare Infrastructure Provision

We are already well over time on this question.

Healthcare Infrastructure Provision

I am preaching to the converted, but I note we are fully half an hour ahead of our anticipated time. Questions are now being reached, which the Deputies who tabled them would have reasonably expected not to be reached, given the timeframe. Deputy Ó Murchú is first up. I will give the Minister of State a little time to get organised. We are skipping ahead to Question No. 112.

Social Welfare Bill 2021: Second Stage

At the outset I welcome the Minister's announcement on the PUP. It is a measure of how quickly this Covid-19 position changes that we have had the Revised Estimates before the committee this week but the situation has already changed. I echo Deputy Duncan Smith's comments about the arts industry in particular and I have already been contacted by people from theatres and concert organisers who sold tickets but are now looking at 50% capacity. They will need our support. Deputy Ó Murchú spoke about the carbon tax and…

Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation

The programme for Government commits to mandating Irish Water to develop plans to ensure security of supply and sufficient capacity in drinking and wastewater networks to allow for balanced regional development. We know that to unlock development outside of our cities, we need to get the basics right. That means quality broadband, good public realm, sustainable transport and, crucially, good water quality. The Tánaiste knows the Waterford coastline better than most. Residents of Bunmahon, a beautiful coastal town a…
