On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 59 of 687 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Eating Disorders

I look forward to that response from the Minister of State concerning the adult beds. What I am hearing from the initial contribution of the Minister of State is that there is no intention to make good that commitment from 2018 regarding the 20 adult beds. The reality is that it is a very complex psychiatric condition. When we look at the data from the Health Research Board, it can be seen that eating disorders require the longest inpatient stays of all psychiatric illnesses. The reality in this country is that we …

Eating Disorders

When are we going to see that review? We have been waiting for these beds. They were promised quite a number of years ago now, but we have not seen them. It is good that there is a review, but we need urgency on it. The reality is there are too many people in this situation. It is simply unacceptable that the State is spending money on sending people suffering with this condition abroad. We need to be providing for these individuals here. This is particularly the case given the length of inpatient stay required for…

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

I hope the Minister and I can agree we need more GP care in this country and, in particular, in Dublin's north inner city in the constituency we are both elected to represent. My question to the Minister today is what he is going to do as Minister for Finance to stave off the closure of the GP Care For All practice in Summerhill in Dublin 1. As he and I know, this GP care practice is run by a medical charity. It directly employs GPs because no one else has been willing to set up a GP practice there. This is because…

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

I have to say this is a double taxation issue and the buck stops with the Minister for Finance.

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

I thank the Minister. There is obviously goodwill on all our parts towards the practice but what I am not hearing today is a sense of urgency with regard to this situation. The chair and the practice manager are in the Public Gallery and they are waiting to hear answers from the Minister. The reality is that the 2,600 patients in the practice include some of the most vulnerable people in our community, as the Minister and I know. The practice is turning away ten to 15 patients per day. The stalemate at present is p…

International Women's Day: Statements

Is léir go bhfuil dhá cheiliúradh an tseachtain seo, idir Lá Idirnáisiúnta na mBan agus Seachtain na Gaeilge. Cé go bhfuil iliomad dúshlán os ár gcomhair, tá sé tábhachtach go bhfuilimid ag caint faoinár ndul chun cinn. Sa Dáil seo, tá níos mó ban tofa mar Theachtaí Dála, agus cé gur rud dearfach é sin, is léir go bhfuil a lán le déanamh. Tá gá mór ann chun níos mó tacaíochta a thabhairt do mhná ionas go mbeidh níos mó ban sa pholaitíocht go gineareálta, sna local authorities agus i dTeach Laighean. I am glad to ha…

Gender-Based Violence: Motion [Private Members]

I thank Deputy Coppinger for tabling the motion, which I very much welcome. I pay tribute to all in the Gallery for their campaigning and strength because the experiences many of them have had come from the most appalling circumstances. I thank the survivors for all they do to bring to our attention the appalling reality of this matter. In a report from the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre last year, Sarah Benson put it very starkly when she stated that, statistically, the most dangerous place for women is in their own ho…

Future of Healthcare for Longer, Healthier Lives: Statements

I wish the Minister and the Minister of State well in their new roles. I think I said to them that they have the shortest titles but probably the biggest responsibilities in the Government. I join others in saying that we need the Minister and the Ministers of State to do well. For our part, we will do everything to try to support the work they are doing to get the positive health outcomes that we need in this country. The list is endless in terms of what we could say when talking about longer, healthier lives but …

Disability: Statements

I wish the Minister well in her new role. When it comes to children with additional needs in this country, the word that appears in almost every single conversation is “wait”. There are waiting lists to be assessed of three to four years in my own area; waiting lists then for the therapies and supports of another three years; and waiting for a place in a school because God forbid there would be a straightforward system in place to match children with additional needs with the places that exist. When the children do…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

While I welcome that section 39 talks will recommence, will the Taoiseach commit to pay parity for section 39 workers and workers in the same roles in section 38 organisations in this country? In its general election manifesto, Fianna Fáil said that, if in government, it would aim to achieve pay parity with the public sector for section 39 staff. Fine Gael said the exact same. I am asking the Taoiseach a straight question. Does he still stand by that or has the position changed? Is he going to once and for all end …

Mental Health: Statements

I genuinely wish the Minister of State well on her reappointment. We all need her to succeed in her role. To many of us, the decline in the mental health of our young people in this country is one of the biggest health, social and economic challenges of our time. The research states that approximately 50% of us will experience mental health difficulties at a particular point in our lives, but for young people the figures are truly terrifying. I am struck by surveys undertaken by the RCSI in 2021, which found that a…

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

When will the Government publish its response to the Dublin city task force report? Last October, the Tánaiste said that the interdepartmental working group would report back before the end of the year and would provide timelines for the plan's recommendations. What is that timeline? Is the Government committed to all ten of the big ideas, as the previous Government was? Recommendation No. 6 called for a move towards a single waste management provider in the city centre via the tender process. The Tánaiste wrote ab…

Housing Policy: Motion [Private Members]

How is it in 21st-century Ireland, when we are into our ninth year of eye-watering budget surpluses with, of course, the exception of the pandemic, that securing an affordable and sustainable home for so many people is largely down to luck? It is down to luck in terms of the family one is born into and whether the bank of Mam and Dad will be able to help with a deposit. More than one third of people in this country are relying on their parents for help with a deposit. It is down to luck in terms of whether one has …

Early Childhood Care and Education

I start by offering my support to all those providing an early years service in this country. I pay tribute to all those staff and providers who go in day in, day out to do their very best for the families they look after. I am conscious that there are huge frustrations in the sector about core funding, wages and bureaucracy. Many service providers tell me they are running unviable services. Despite all these issues, they go in and provide a brilliant and much-needed service across every community in this country. …
