Representative Actions for the Protection of the Collective Interests of Consumers Bill 2023: Second Stage
I interrupt the Minister of State, Deputy Calleary, to welcome the said Minister of State, Deputy James Browne, to the Chamber. He is with a United Nations grouping that is working on the issue of sustainable development.
They have been in Enniscorthy in recent days. We welcome them to the House along with Councillor Barbara-Anne Murphy. I thank them for being here.

Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2022: Committee Stage
Before I bring in the Minister, on this day of days, which is the 60th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's address to Dáil Éireann and Seanad Éireann, it is appropriate that I welcome from Ballyporeen guests of Senator Ahearn: Breda Fitzgibbon, Eamon O'Hanrahan, Eileen Hickey, Kevin Caplice, Martin O'Donoghue, Fiona O'Donoghue, John O'Donoghue and Mary O'Donoghue. Ballyporeen is associated with the second US President to address a joint sitting of the Houses. They are most welcome. I thank Senator Ahearn for…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business
I support the Order of Business.
My contribution relates to the issue of the waiting times for the driver's test. I was informed by one of my party's councillors today in County Kilkenny that two constituents received a driver's test notification for next year and that is the earliest date that they could secure. Can the Minister for Transport be invited to this House to outline what can be done to ensure people can get driving tests? Drivers, especially young people, need a full licence to travel to work, but also…

Address to Seanad Éireann by H.E. Maura Healey, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Go raibh maith agat, a Chathaoirligh. I thank the Governor for addressing the House. Tip O'Neill, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, said all politics is local so I will start with local politics and welcome some of my constituents, including relatives of Governor Healey, who are here from County Kerry and say they look forward to meeting her and, of course, her mother, with whom I had a great chat last night.

Address to Seanad Éireann by H.E. Maura Healey, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
We discussed many things about our trip to County Kerry, including Kenmare, but one of the themes of the Governor's address was that those who drink the water should never forget those who dug the well. That was a quote often used by someone she mentioned in her speech, former President Mary McAleese. In the Governor's address she spoke about her pride in her ancestors from all over the island and how they made sacrifices. In particular, she referred to her mother who had to raise children and sacrificed her own op…

Agricultural and Food Supply Chain Bill 2022: Second Stage
May I interrupt the Minister for one second? I would like to acknowledge former Deputy and Senator, Dan Neville, before he leaves the Chamber. He served in this House many years ago. He was elected to the labour panel to serve here. It is important we recognise the work of Members who have come to Seanad Éireann and then went to other offices in the Dáil. Mr. Neville's great work on suicide prevention down through the years needs to be acknowledged as well. I thank Mr. Neville, former Senator, for coming to Seanad …

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business
I join others in expressing my deepest sympathies to the Coghlan family on the passing of the former Senator Paul Coghlan. The Cathaoirleach's words encompass some of what he accomplished in a span of political activity from an urban district council, where he proudly served as mayor of Killarney, to this House, where he championed issues relating to Ireland at the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly.
Former Senator Paul Coghlan was one of those who championed this House and represented it and Ireland abroad in Br…

Address to Seanad Éireann by Ms Annita Demetriou, Speaker of the Cypriot House of Representatives
I wish to thank Madam Speaker for coming to Seanad Éireann today. I thank her and the people of Cyprus for their support for Ireland during the Brexit negotiations and for their solidarity during those difficult years to make sure that there was no return to a hard border on the island of Ireland. A country that is familiar with a hard border certainly does not want to see one return to another island nation.
I join with Madam Speaker in paying tribute to our Defence Forces and the members of an Garda Síochána who …

Criminal Justice (Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offences) Bill 2022: Second Stage
Before I call on the next speaker, I welcome our Seanad colleague, Senator Clifford-Lee, to the Gallery, along with the parents of naíonáin bheaga, and more importantly the parents of Teddy's friends in Gaelscoil na Mara, Donabate. I am sure that Teddy is at home studying but I am delighted that all the parents are out here enjoying themselves. You are most welcome and I thank Senator Clifford-Lee for bringing you here all the way from north County Dublin. You are most welcome.
