On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 66 of 66 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

Before I call Senator Chambers, I want to make a few remarks. We are grateful to the people and country of Greece for their contribution to the world, not only for giving us the meaning and idea of democracy but also for the very word itself. Ireland is unique in having the only capital city with a street named after the Greek language. This year, Greece celebrates the 200th anniversary of the beginning of its war of independence. Among those who fought in that struggle was General Richard Church, from County Cork,…

It is Greek Street, behind the Four Courts. The next time the Senator goes by the Four Courts he will be able to see the only street in the whole world named after the Greek language.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

I thank Senators for raising the important issue of abuse - a number of Senators have done so - and particularly online abuse and the need for it to be tackled, not just for politicians but for all citizens. We are well aware of the issue of bullying in schools and online. People sending anonymous messages cannot be traced and suffer no consequences. It is an issue not just for this House and the Dáil but for society, and I thank Senators for raising it, particularly as it relates to our Tánaiste, which highlights …

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

I want to wish everyone on the Emerald Isle and, of course, the over 70 million people of Irish heritage living abroad a happy St. Patrick's Day. Article 2 of the Constitution states that the Irish nation cherishes its special affinity with people of Irish heritage living overseas. This St. Patrick's Day we will celebrate every member of that global Irish community. From the home of the Parliament of the people of Ireland and from the Irish nation, beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh go léir.

Gabh mo leithscéal. There is an issue in relation to privilege in this House. We all know about the new Standing Orders that have been brought in in this House on foot of legal action taken against Members of the Oireachtas.

To be clear, anyone is entitled to raise issues in this House and that is what this Parliament is about but there is a counterbalance in relation to individual rights and we must be very aware of those rights. Ar aghaidh leat.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

I thank the Senator for raising the memory of Billy Fox and his courageous service to the State, which cost him his life. I know that Coillte has a memorial forest for him in his home county. On this occasion, it would be fitting for Members to reflect upon Members who have gone before us. Senator McGahon's sugge…
