On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 66 of 66 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

National Oil Reserves Agency (Amendment) and Provision of Central Treasury Services Bill 2020: Committee and Remaining Stages

Amendment No. 5 in the name of Senator Higgins is in conflict with the principle of the Bill as there is a potential charge on the people.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

In honour of Jack Charlton and the Irish team of many decades ago. I ask Members to be brief, by which I do not mean going to two minutes because they have it. If Senators could limit themselves to one minute, I would appreciate it. This will allow us to get everybody in.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

Jack Charlton was a legend on this island. He brought so much joy to so many for so long. We will send a letter to the Charlton family expressing the sympathy of Seanad Éireann and the people of Ireland. Senator Byrne has proposed an amendment to the Order of Business: "That No. 3 be taken before No.1." The Leader has indicated she is prepared to accept the amendment. Is the amendment agreed? Agreed.

Financial Provisions (Covid-19) Bill 2020: Second Stage

I thank the Minister of State for coming to the House on the first day after his appointment to his new role and congratulate him on being elevated to high office. He has done great service in committees down through the years, including the Committee of Public Accounts, involving long hours, early mornings, huge amounts of paperwork to be read and not many thanks. Not many people know the amount of work the Committee of Public Accounts did under his chairmanship, keeping public companies and other institutions of …

Financial Provisions (Covid-19) Bill 2020: Committee and Remaining Stages

There are two amendments to section 10 from Senator Alice-Mary Higgins. As outlined by the Minister of State, this section is about Ireland applying to access the funding through the European Union. Given the nature of the Bill, many of the measures are technical. As the Minister of State outlined, prescribing how the money should be spent is not part of the function of the Bill. That is why, regretfully, I had to rule amendment No. 1 out of order. Amendment No. 2 is along similar lines in terms of being prescripti…
