On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 66 of 66 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Residential Tenancies (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2026: Committee Stage (Resumed)

I know. I am trying to give a small bit of latitude but it is amendments Nos. 4 to 6, inclusive, and amendment No. 8, which relate to reviews of the Act. Where it is relevant, people can bring up the examples, but I ask people to speak to the amendments.

Residential Tenancies (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2026: Committee Stage (Resumed)

I will clarify, we are on amendments Nos. 4 to 6, inclusive, and amendment No. 8 and they relate, predominantly, to the workings of the Act and reviews thereof and to put in a review mechanism of the Act within two years. That is what we are speaking about and I ask Members to speak to those amendments. Anois, Senator Andrews is in possession.

Residential Tenancies (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2026: Committee Stage (Resumed)

I am trying to be fair to all sides. The Minister is entitled to respond. The Senator is entitled to respond to the Minister, but if we do that, no one will speak to any amendment. We will just be responding to the previous response.

Residential Tenancies (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2026: Committee Stage (Resumed) and Remaining Stages

I welcome to the Gallery Mr. Séamus Hennessy from Roscrea College who is a guest of the Leas-Chathaoirleach. As Mr. Hennessy is visiting from a college, he has no homework for the rest of the week. I am sure he is delighted to hear that.

Residential Tenancies (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2026: Committee Stage (Resumed) and Remaining Stages

I welcome Senator Cathal Byrne. It is amazing he is here because he is getting married tomorrow, of all things. Obviously he has all the preparation work done. I wish Cathal and Sarah all the very best and, as our colleague from Tipperary reminded us, Sarah is from Tipperary so he is doing very well. I hope they have a great day tomorrow, and congratulations, Cathal. Amendments Nos. 7, 18 and 20 are related and may be discussed together, by agreement. Is that agreed? Agreed.

I have received notice from the following Senators that they propose to raise the following matters: Senator Anne Rabbitte - The need for the Minister for Education and Youth to make a statement on the need for an additional classroom provision in Tiernascragh National School, County Galway. Senator Nicole Ryan - The need for the Minister for Education and Youth to make a statement on the criteria used in recent special needs assistant, SNA, reviews and whether reductions in mainstream SNA allocations are undermini…

Before I call the next speaker, I welcome to Seanad Éireann the guests of the Minister of State, Deputy Robert Troy, to the Visitors Gallery. They are from Scoil Eoin Naofa, Ballymore, County Westmeath. I am sure the Minister told them that when people visit Seanad Éireann, the extra benefit outside of hearing the wisdom of the Senators is that they also have no homework for the rest of the week. They should make sure the teachers implement that little policy.

Gnó an tSeanaid - Business of Seanad

Before I ask the Deputy Leader to outline the Order of Business, I know Senators were saddened to hear of the death last week of a former Member of this House, Larry Butler. A native of County Carlow and the son of a local lock-keeper on the canal, Larry grew up along the River Barrow and received his education through Graiguenamanagh national school. Although his life and career took him to Dublin, his heart was always in Carlow. Larry entered public life when he was elected to Dublin County Council in 1991, repre…
