On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 60 of 748 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

I rise again today to raise a very serious matter about my local hospital and that of the Acting Leader, Naas General Hospital. It is the second time in just over a year that "RTÉ Investigates" has disclosed horrific allegations of sexual abuse of patients by medical professionals who were working in the hospital. In last night's case, it was outlined that a doctor who worked at Naas General Hospital was removed from the Irish medical register in 2015 after two patients alleged they were sexually assaulted by him. …

I thank the Senator. His contribution was very powerful. It was important that we listened to him today. Well done. I also want to welcome Mr. Peter Behan to the Gallery. I ask the Minister of State to respond to the debate.

National Minimum Wage (Payment of Interns) Bill 2022: Second Stage

I welcome the Minister of State back to the House. I am proud to speak on this Bill and in doing so I want to thank my colleague, Senator Sherlock, for bringing forward such legislation and for all her hard work on it. She has been championing legislation to improve the quality of life of all workers in recent years, from paid sick leave to paid leave for pregnancy loss. I am also glad that the Bill provides for the needs of students, as they are more than deserving of the minimum wage for all the work they carry o…

I have just come from a meeting of the Joint Committee on Social Protection, Community and Rural Development and the Islands, where we had in representatives of Family Carers Ireland. We also heard heartbreaking and powerful testimonies from three families. I want to put on record the name of the three carers and those for whom they are caring. I thank Mr. Damien Douglas, Ms Niamh Ryan and Ms Anna Budayova, and indeed their children, Una, Ailis, Liam and Esther, for their powerful contributions to the committee mee…

I support Senator Murphy's call for a debate on rural transport. I raised this previously in the House. We have had the very welcome reductions yesterday of 20% and 50% for youth travel cards but, unfortunately, many of the people I represent and live beside will not see the benefit of that because they are on commercial operators, which are still not included under the scheme. Last night I was contacted by a number of people who are still bypassing their local train station to drive to Sallins to benefit from the …

Regional Aid

I welcome the Minister to the House. I also want to thank the Cathaoirleach for choosing this important matter. Regional aid is an enhanced form of aid that can be provided to enterprises in more economically disadvantaged areas. It incentivises SMEs and large enterprises to invest in growth and expansion. Most important, it increases the attractiveness of these areas for investment. It is an important aid measure for enterprise agencies and to support Irish enterprises to grow and to expand as they attract foreign…

I thank the Minister of State, Deputy English, for his reply. I worry when I see that the indicators for Kildare show an unemployment level that does not conform with the criteria set down. I am asking about the Athy municipal district, where unfortunately the unemployment rate is higher. Once again, we have a departmental reply which encompasses the entire county rather than the part of the county to which I refer today. I am worried about the south of the county. Parts of County Kildare have terrific employment. …
