On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 125 of 781 decisive votes (6 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

We have reached crisis point trying to accommodate refugees from Ukraine. This morning I received a reply to a parliamentary question from the Minister for Justice. It states that 3,254 people arrived in this country without documentation in the first eight months of the year. This breaks down to 400 a month or 100 a week. The reply also states these individuals presented full documentation when they boarded at their point of departure. When they arrived at Dublin Airport they had no documentation. What is going on…

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

In the middle of acute crises in housing and health, as well as the total mess the Government has made of the refugee situation, have the Taoiseach and the Cabinet nothing better to do than try to undermine and destroy publicans throughout the country? That is what the Government is doing with its proposals for late openings up to the morning in cities and big places, opening the pubs earlier in the morning in the country and deregulating the licences. That is what I understand the Government is trying to do. That …

Residential Tenancies (Deferment of Termination Dates of Certain Tenancies) Bill 2022: Second Stage

I am a bit perplexed about this legislation. I tried to grapple with it. My staff in the office, especially Kathy, my daughter, Councillor Máirín McGrath, and all the girls who are there are dealing with terrible situations on a daily basis. They are just flocking in with nowhere to go,with letters giving notice to quit, you name it. Successive Governments have failed to grapple with this. Regulation is never the best way. For a business with an employer and employees, they are better off if they can have good will…

Development (Emergency Electricity Generation) Bill 2022: Second Stage

I am glad the Minister, Deputy Ryan, is here. I will read from a small bit from the speech delivered by the Minister of State, Deputy Smyth. First, he told the Dáil he would discuss the generation capacity shortfall that exists. Welcome to the real world. Second, he said, "I will reaffirm the urgency of this Bill in order to enable delivery of emergency capacity to maintain a secure electricity supply for customers". My goodness, what a mouthful. Wakey, wakey. Is this Alice in Wonderland ? Did the Minister finally …

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

Many Irish Water workers, and Tipperary County Council workers in the water services section, and Waterford City and County Council water workers - my parish is divided into both - have raised huge concerns and angst with me and with many other Deputies about what is going on and the transfer of their jobs and careers into Uisce Éireann or Ervia or whatever you want to call it now. There is huge concern and angst. I hate to call it a basket case but that is what Irish Water is. Níl aon phingin acu. They have no mon…

Finance Bill 2022: Second Stage (Resumed)

I am pleased to speak. In the short time available for me to speak on the Finance Bill, I am only going to be able to cover a fraction of the issues. I will certainly address the concrete levy because this is a farce. It is showing the white flag to the real perpetrators of that awful mica and pyrite crisis. Those perpetrators were the quarries. The Minister obviously has no appetite to touch big business. We see that across the country. He has decided to put the problem onto the building of every house. The levy w…
