On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 125 of 781 decisive votes (6 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Remediation of Dwellings Damaged by the Use of Defective Concrete Blocks Bill 2022: Second Stage

Everyone knows about the bankers but they are untouchable. They paid €70 million in fines last week. Whose money was that? It was the people's money, the people they wronged by putting them on different mortgages. What kind of a banana republic is this? The people of 1916, 1921 and 1922 gave their lives and spilled their blood for this. To have this kind of a charade going on here is outrageous. This is nothing personal to the Minister of State but he is part of the Government. He is the junior Minister. The Minist…

Remediation of Dwellings Damaged by the Use of Defective Concrete Blocks Bill 2022: Second Stage

Gabhaim buíochas leis an Teachta. Bogfaimid ar aghaidh anois go dtí Páirtí Shinn Féin agus glaoim ar an Teachta Mac Lochlainn ar dtús agus an Teachta Doherty ansin. Tá deich nóiméad an duine acu.

Report of the Committee of Public Accounts: Motion

Ba mhaith liom mo bhuíochas a ghabháil leis an Teachta Stanley, an Teachta Murphy agus na daoine eile ar an gcoiste. I thank the members of the Committee of Public Accounts for this timely report. I note the difficulties they have had. This was a bonkers project from day one. I also note, and this is no disrespect to an tAire Stáit, that the Minister for Health is not here to take this item. There is nothing new with senior Ministers abdicating responsibility. This was the wrong site in the wrong place at the wrong…

Diplomatic Representation

Just to notify Deputy Tóibín that there are ways under Standing Orders to write to the Ceann Comhairle if he is unhappy with the answers he got here this morning. We will move on to the next question.

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

I am wondering if there is any possibility of some legislation to reform the entity of so-called Uisce Éireann, Irish Water. The town of Clonmel serves roughly 20,000 people. There are water outages on a weekly and sometimes daily basis. I salute former official Jimmy Harney and others and present officials trying to get a source from the River Suir and a treatment plant. Indeed, there is a landowner willing to sell the site. However, there is no movement from Irish Water. It does not have a penny to do anything. T…

Respite Care Services: Motion [Private Members]

I too thank the Independent Group and compliment its Members on bringing this motion forward. I note the Government is not opposing it. I hope this is not another one of the motions that the Government does not oppose but on which it does nothing. We have to salute the carers. I wear the carers badge as often as I can - it is only a small thing - to recognise the strenuous and arduous work that carers do. However, they are being blackguarded by the HSE and the Department. I note the Minister of State, Deputy Butler…

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht – Questions on Policy or Legislation

Farm contractors and forestry contractors made a presentation in the audiovisual room here some months ago. They represent a vital component within the industry. They were pleading with the Government. They asked to meet the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Marine, who has ignored them, and the Minister for Finance. At €1.51 per litre, agricultural green diesel is now three times the price it was last year, with the additional cost of the AdBlue. This industry is vital for the delivery of our crops, our harvest, …

Insurance Reform: Statements

I thank the Independent Group for sharing time with our group to speak to this issue and, in particular, I thank Deputy McNamara for accommodating it. In the spirit of co-operation, it is great. I have always had great respect for the Minister of State but I do not like to see the Government telling us about the 66 actions it is going to take. If it wants to reform insurance, it should look at no more than ten actions it could take. Whenever I see reports with 60, 70 or sometimes 100 recommendations, I know nothing…
