On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 125 of 781 decisive votes (6 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Finance (Covid-19 and Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2021: Committee and Remaining Stages

I agree that it will be difficult. I had an argument with the Minister on the night that Covid payments were introduced with regard to students and young people who work weekends or on a part-time basis. The Minister gave them €350. That was silly. Anybody who employs people now knows that personal public service number returns are done weekly. I am an employer. It would have been a simple exercise to find out what such people were earning, whether they worked a Saturday, a Sunday or a few nights in hotels and club…

Finance (Covid-19 and Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2021: Committee and Remaining Stages

I am unable to support this amendment. I have no ideological hang-ups about developers, builders or whatever. Probably against my better judgment and despite serious concerns, I voted for the Land Development Agency Bill. I am willing to try anything to solve the housing problem. Many years ago, when the vulture funds first arrived, the former Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan, whom I wish well, said this was a welcome and necessary development. They are anything but a welcome development. I will relate to the H…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

I asked for a debate at the Business Committee on the Common Agricultural Policy, CAP, reform negotiations that are taking place at this vital time for Ireland and the future of agriculture, which we were discussing a minute ago. I also want a full comprehensive debate in this House before we rise for the summer on the whole issue of the vaccine passports and the medical apartheid this Government now wants to implement and force on publicans and which will pit families against each other as to who has a vaccine and…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

On a point of clarification, our group had a contribution of five minutes in that debate. If the Taoiseach calls that a comprehensive debate, that is nonsense.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

I asked the Taoiseach some months ago about An Taisce appealing decisions of the Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, An Bord Pleanála and Kilkenny County Council regarding the Glanbia plant in south Kilkenny. The plant is badly needed, as young farmers have big commitments and borrowings. There have been three challenges in the High Court to date. Will the Taoiseach do something to get the An Taisce monkey off the backs of the people? It is getting €6 million in funding every year from all kinds of sources. There…

Domestic, Sexual and Gender-based Violence: Statements

This debate is hollow and meaningless, as the Government has consistently failed to address key issues concerning domestic and gender-based violence over the last year. The ongoing lack of action by the Government is both worrying and pathetic. For example, there is a disgraceful delay in publishing two reports which aim to highlight the grave nature of the situation and utter lack of provision of services and emergency accommodation to assist sufferers of domestic and gender-based violence. This House continues to…

Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation

The Tánaiste has said the economy is going to take off like a rocket. What he said about the theory test shows that the situation is a shambles. Apprenticeship schemes are also unable to function. You need two things for an apprenticeship, namely, a good employer who will give people the opportunity and colleges to provide the courses. People cannot get into the colleges because they are not functioning. I had a young man on to me this morning who, even though he is in an apprenticeship scheme for six months, has t…

Industrial Relations (Provisions in Respect of Pension Entitlements of Retired Workers) Bill 2021: Second Stage [Private Members]

With the permission of the House, I ask that the Rural Independent Group permit Deputy Tóibín to speak for four minutes. The Deputy missed his slot by seconds and we have time. Is that agreed? Agreed.
