On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 125 of 781 decisive votes (6 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Construction Safety Licensing Bill 2023: Second Stage (Resumed)

I am glad to speak on this Bill. Sa chéad dul síos, I congratulate Tipperary ETB on the fabulous centre it has in Archerstown in Thurles where students are trained in everything from bed repairs for hotel maintenance and the cleaning of rooms in hotels to operating massive bulldozers in construction and everything in between, from chef training to you name it. We need more of that because we have a huge deficit in apprentices. Deputy Nolan referred to the projected estimates. Where will we get these people? We will…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

On behalf of the Rural Independent Group, I call for a debate in the House on the madness that is going on with the importation of wood chippings from Brazil, peat from Latvia and anything else from any other part of the world that we feel like, rather than using our own peat and allowing farmers to cut down their own forestry to be used here. We need an urgent debate in this House. The green tail is wagging the dog and it will keep wagging until the tail falls off. What is happening is insane. We need a reasonable…

I did not get an answer, to be fair. The Taoiseach said he does not know about the wood chippings. The children on the street know about the wood chippings and the peat-----

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

By now, the Taoiseach will know Ms Cara Darmody from Ardfinnan, County Tipperary. She is presenting in the audiovisual room as we speak. She has three simple requests. First, carers of children with special needs should not be charged for assessments and such assessments should be addressed under the national treatment plan. Second, the carer's allowance should not be means-tested. Carers work for €1.34 per hour. Third, an independent oversight body should be set up to examine the many cases where young people and …

The Deputy is sharing with Deputy Michael Healy-Rae. Is that agreed? Agreed.

I have to stop the Deputy because the time has expired, but we will continue the next day. I am sorry to have to give him the red ticket.

Support for Household Energy Bills: Motion [Private Members]

I am a bit bewildered because this is a good motion and I want to support it. However, on 22 October 2022, Sinn Féin refused to support our motion to cut out carbon tax and we cannot have it every way here. The people at home are bewildered, as Deputy Tóibín said, and they are blackguarded, perished, angry, demoralised and many other words I cannot use. We have the highest prices in Europe and we get promise after promise that the Government is going to introduce a windfall tax. The ESB is making record profits. Th…

Hospital Facilities

I thank Deputy Martin Browne for letting me share time. We want answers about St. Patrick's Hospital in Cashel. We want reassurance and something definite in respect of this matter. St. Patrick's Hospital is a wonderful institution. My late mum did some time there. I cannot say enough about the staff and all the people there, including in the chapels and the church. I often attended mass there, when we had a church. We were expecting a 60-bed community unit to be delivered. That is what we were told all the way alo…

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

Major sporting, hunting, shooting and farming organisations have serious concerns regarding the recently published report of the firearms expert committee, FEC. There are also concerns regarding the make-up of this committee. Firearms users have come together to form a representative body and they want to meet the Minister of State, Deputy James Browne, and to be consulted about safe and proper access to firearms. These groups are trusted. We are talking about part of their culture and heritage. All they want is to…
