On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 41 of 930 decisive votes (9 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

It is just, given yesterday, the Ceann Comhairle might be interested. We would at least get the answer.

Agriculture Schemes

The Minister said last week that he is taking the voluntary dairy cow reduction scheme off the table. Will he explain why this is being done? Was it because Dairy Industry Ireland, which describes itself as the most influential business representative organisation in Ireland, threatened to sue the State if milk volumes for processors dropped as a consequence?

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

The horror in Gaza continues to deepen. The latest is the discovery of mass graves at hospitals, including one with more than 300 bodies at a hospital in Khan Younis and another at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza city. The Tánaiste has said the people of Gaza are being collectively punished by Israel and that he believes Israel intends to attack Rafah, where more than 1.5 million people have fled or are attempting to survive and who face being slaughtered in the coming weeks. The question is what the Government is going …

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

On Saturday, the people of Tallaght came onto the streets to protest and demand that our post office be saved. More than 1,500 people have signed a petition either online or in person. From talking to people there, those who use the post office at The Square regularly are devastated at the prospect of losing a post office where they get a wonderful service from the workers. The post office will be closed and replaced by a smaller post office in a different location, with fewer staff, counters and services. It is a …

Weather-Related Supports for Farmers: Statements (Resumed)

I welcome financial supports for small farmers during this bad weather. Unfortunately for them and society in general, the weather will keep getting worse and farming will become more and more difficult due to climate change. Yesterday at the climate committee, we heard presentations from the authors of Ireland's climate change assessment, an official Government report. They told us average temperatures in this country are already about 1°C higher than in the early 20th century. 2022 was the hottest year on record …

Acknowledgement and Apology to the Families and to the Victims of the Stardust Tragedy: Statements

I pay tribute to all of the relatives and survivors. Their struggle, determination and resilience is incredibly inspiring against the backdrop of experiencing such horrific tragedy and trauma, faced with a State determined to cover up what happened and block the struggle for the truth. In the face of them and their loved ones being slandered and lied about, they just kept going. In the face of obstacle after obstacle, no justice here and no justice there, and one door after another closed to them, they just kept go…

Gender Recognition

Our healthcare system in general is in crisis. Almost a million people are on public hospital waiting lists. It is even worse for trans people. We have the worst trans healthcare in all of the European Union, according to a recent report by Transgender Europe. There is denial of services in primary care settings and a ten-year waiting list to access public services. Those people who seek to access services through the public service are faced with intrusive psychiatric assessments. There is inadequate care, discrim…

Gender Recognition

The Minister states, and I agree with this, "we cannot have a situation where we are developing a model of care for a group of people who are not involved and whose voices are not heard" and that "a key part of the development of this model of care will be consultation with stakeholders" and so on. He also states that this is a message he really wants to get across. What would be better than getting a message across would be to actually do it. This is not what has happened. Trans people have been excluded from all …

Employment Rights

In June 2021, the Minister's Department issued a press release, the strapline of which was: "All workers to get 10 days paid sick leave phased in between now and 2025". Now it is being reported that the Minister is going to betray this promise because of pressure from business owners. I have a very simple question. Will he confirm or deny that he is going to pause the planned and previously promised increase in statutory sick days?

Employment Rights

That was as clear as mud; we do not have an answer. Is the Minister going to deliver the sick days that are promised to workers, which the Minister said are not just an issue of workers' rights but also public health? This is about forcing mostly low-paid workers to go to work when they are sick. Is the Minister going to deliver on that or pause it in the interests of those business lobbyists who are calling for this? During the debate on the Bill, I pointed out that a wide-open loophole had been stitched into the …

It is scandalous that the Fine Gael Ard-Fheis was used to fly a kite in the interests of the employers to say the Government is considering delaying sick pay.
