On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 41 of 930 decisive votes (9 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

I thank the Minister. I will send on details of these various families in Citywest. Citywest is a very good example. I hope that by September, everyone will have an appropriate place in Citywest but the fact that we are at this point is a reflection of a lack of planning. Citywest must be one of the fastest growing areas in the country in terms of population. Development after development is going up. Planning has been developer-led and most of this has been done through the strategic housing development process wi…

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

Yesterday, a house in Leixlip was burned down after false rumours circulated suggesting that it was going to be used for people seeking asylum. Four days ago, the old Crooksling nursing home in Brittas was burned down. On New Year's Eve, the old Shipwright Pub in Ringsend was burned down. It was due to house homeless people. We have seen 26 arson attacks in the past five years against premises rumoured to be used for asylum seekers. The pattern is very clear. A rumour starts, true or false, suggesting a property is…

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

We have deep inequality. We have neglected communities because of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael which have run the State since its foundation. That is why ordinary people need to take a stand against the terrorism of the far right, against the racism, homophobia, sexism and hate that it tries to spread, and against the housing crisis and inequality that the Government has created. It is why they will stand together at 1.30 p.m. on Saturday, 2 March in Parnell Square.

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

I am not blaming the Government for the burning down of these buildings. I am not sure where the Minister got that impression. Those who are responsible for burning down the buildings are those who burned down the buildings and the far right, which is whipping up false fears, spreading hatred, spreading division and creating an environment where this can happen. However, after five years of a terrorist campaign by the far right in this country, why has there not been a single charge of arson? I am asking that. The …

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

I am blaming the Government for the inequality in our society, for the housing crisis in our society and for the health crisis in our society which are exploited by those on the far right, who, instead of pointing their anger upwards at the people the Government represents, falsely blame the vulnerable in our society. That is what I am blaming the Government for.

Dublin Airport Authority

It was revealed last weekend in The Irish Times that the Dublin Airport Authority, DAA, is cooking the books in terms of the numbers of passengers going through the airport and, in reality, is breaching the passenger cap. If all passengers going through the airport were properly counted, the airport would have breached the 32 million passengers per annum cap by more than 1 million. What action will the Department take to ensure that the airport maintains the passenger cap?

Dublin Airport Authority

I raised this with the Minister, and I had the Minister of State, Deputy Chambers answer me, on 30 November. The Minister of State assured me then that "the CEO of the DAA has confirmed that, until planning permission ... is granted, it will continue to manage passenger capacity ... to ensure this planning condition [of 32 million] is not breached." DAA is breaching it. It is in the newspapers. Is the Minister of State seriously telling me that the Government accepts the idea that if a passenger does not set foot i…

The DAA has provided the methodology all right and the methodology says we are cooking the books. The Minister of State is telling me that the Government and a Department led by a Green Minister does not mind and says that it is nothing to do with them. Are private jet customers included? Are they included in the figure that keeps under the 32 million cap the 31.9 million figure which DAA uses after effectively cooking the books? It is not sustainable. I accept what the Minister of State said about roads, etc., but…

Departmental Policies

We have had many exchanges in the Chamber on the need for free public transport. People Before Profit are very clear that we consider this to be a key environmental and cost-of-living measure. I want to focus on the question of making public transport free for under-18s and students because not only is it a very good idea, but it is also Green Party policy. Are we going to see it happen?

Departmental Policies

I thank the Minister. The Green Party transport policy from April 2021 refers to short-term actions to be done within 12 months. One is to "Make public transport free for all students (up to and including 3rd level) ...". It is now 34 months later and students are still paying for public transport. What I took from the Minister's answer, as well as recent reporting in the Irish Examiner is that there is no intention to further reduce fares and certainly no intention to move towards non-commodified public transport …

The fare reduction is welcome; there is no question about that. It has made a difference, so imagine what a difference it could make if the Minister's party's policy were implemented and we reduced the fares so far that they no longer existed. Imagine what that would mean for people in terms of the money in their pocket and the ease of just knowing they can jump on a bus, train or whatever and get where they need to go. This is always the debate. The Minister says "No" and that the key thing is for us to have acces…
