On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 49 of 1,011 decisive votes (16 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Confidence in Government: Motion

The Government does not wish to hear the truth, but the reality is it is in the Minister's constituency as well, because the housing disaster the Government has created has gone into every single constituency, parish and community. That is the reality.

Confidence in Government: Motion

The Government's own Minister has acknowledged the decision he and the Cabinet have taken and the decision the Government voted for, with the support of a handful of Independents, will increase homelessness. However, it is not just figures we need to be talking about. It is not just the 11,754 who are homeless, and the 3,451 people, but all of the additional people the Minister will make homeless. We put it to the Tánaiste last week about a family who was told to go to the Garda station, because that was the only s…

Education and the School Building Programme: Motion [Private Members]

Gabhaim buíochas le Páirtí an Lucht Oibre as an rún seo a chur síos tráthnóna. Ardaím an cheist seo leis an Aire. Níl sí anseo ag an bpointe seo ach d’ardaigh mé léi é an tseachtain seo atá imithe thart. Tá 58 scoil curtha ar athló anois. Tá siad á gcur ar an méar fhada. Níl a fhios acu cén uair a thosóidh siad nó an dtosóidh siad.

Schools Building Projects

There has been shock right across the school community as a result of letters issued to a number of schools stating that their building projects are now stalled. It seems that as many as 16 schools in my constituency may be affected, although the details are still sketchy. I have raised with the Minister in these questions two of those schools, Scoil Chonaill in Bun Beag and Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí. Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí is waiting for diggers to go in. They have 24 hours left on their contract for te…

Schools Building Projects

That does not give us the reassurance that the school community needs. On Tuesday, the Taoiseach stated, "I am happy to confirm and give the reassurance that funding will be provided for those 58 schools to continue construction this year." Can the Minister for Education, Deputy Foley, echo those words? Are all of these 58 schools, in the words of the Taoiseach, going "to continue construction this year"? Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí has been in prefabs since 1999. It has been waiting on the school building progra…

Schools Building Projects

I hear what the Minister is saying; that she is committed to these projects, and I take her at face value on that. The big question, however, is: when is she committed to delivering them? A total of 58 schools have a pause. They have received the letters and emails and there is shock in the communities. The Taoiseach stood in the seat across from me on Tuesday and gave a reassurance that "funding will be provided for those 58 schools to continue construction this year." Does one end of government know what the othe…

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

Aréir, chaith an Rialtas vóta a chinntigh go mbeidh níos mó saoránach sa tír seo gan dídean sna míonna amach romhainn. Cinneadh dochrach a bhí ann, is é sin rud a dhéarfadh go ligfeadh daoine i ndearmad go deo. Ní féidir leis an Rialtas an cheist shimplí a fhreagairt. Cá rachaidh na daoine seo? Last night, in what must be a first for a Government in this State, the Government took a cold, cruel, heartless and calculated decision to make more citizens homeless throughout this State in the coming months. It was an ab…

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

The Tánaiste needs to get his head out of the clouds and look at and listen to what is happening on the ground. In his own constituency and throughout the State, there are people who will become homeless in nine days' time. They are from all sectors. They are young and old. We have letters about children who were born a couple of weeks ago, from mothers who have nowhere to go on 1 April. The Tánaiste can stand up here and imitate Deputy Ó Broin all he wants but that is what is happening on the ground. The Tánaiste …

Stand up for renters. Stand up for those who are about to become homeless. Stand up for people in this State and do the right thing.

And then use that space to do the emergency actions we have been calling on the Tánaiste and his Ministers to do since October. This is a party and a Government that are out of time and out of ideas. They have abandoned these renters and citizens right across the State.
