On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 55 of 1,141 decisive votes (16 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Mental Health Services

I thank the Minister of State. We will all be very interested in the review around the bed capacity and where those weaknesses are that need to be addressed. As Deputy O'Rourke has said, there is a need for the Minister of State to take a look to ensure that the plan is for the day hospital to be provided with a sufficient amount of space to offer the services that are required, and so it means that we deal with the community care piece. We are also looking for day hospital services in Dundalk and Drogheda. This wo…

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

I wish to bring up the issue of public liability insurance and not for the first time. I want a timeline on when the duty of care legislation will go through. I also want to know if there have been any successes in the office for increasing competition in insurance, particularly in relation to public liability. This is because there are just not enough players in the industry. We are now at a disaster situation. I know that majority of leisure, entertainment and children's entertainment companies, particularly peop…

Departmental Bodies

There has been significant solidarity with Ukraine and against the war criminality of Vladimir Putin. We all agree we need to hurt the Russian and oligarchs' war machine financially. We need to deal with the section 110 companies and the various means by which money can be filtered that have enabled these people. There has been great success regarding people who have contacted us about medical supplies, particularly insulin. This was facilitated, but many people are still talking about the community response. The E…

Institutional Burials Bill 2022: Second Stage

Unfortunately, we are once again in this Chamber dealing with a legacy of the State that has been far from what we would like it to have been. I will quote the Minister, who said, "What happened at Tuam is a stain on our national conscience." That is what happened at Tuam and in all the various mother and baby homes with the incarceration and treatment of women and children. At Bessborough, Sean Ross Abbey and in all the various institutions, the State failed to look after its citizens, from the youngest to the old…

Comóradh Sheachtain na Gaeilge: Ráitis

Dúirt mé anseo cheana féin nach raibh go leor cleachtaidh déanta agam agus is é sin an scéal go fóill maidir leis an nGaeilge. Shíl mé go raibh níos mó ama agam chun rudaí a ullmhú ach is é sin mar a tharlaíonn cúrsaí anseo i dTeach Laighean. Tá fonn orm caint ar oideachas. Tá fadhb ann maidir le scoileanna. Tá thart ar 50,000 dalta ar na bunscoileanna Gaeilge ach níl ach 16,000 ag freastal ar Ghaelcholáistí. Is í an fhadhb atá ann ná nach bhfuil go leor spásanna i gceist. Tá cuid mhór tacaíochta de dhíth ag tuismi…

Support for the Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity of Ukraine: Motion

I commend this motion. Like many Members here, I think it is vital that we give our solidarity to the Ukrainian people. Táim an-sásta a labhairt faoi saoirse na hÚcráine, and against the disgraceful Russian onslaught and the war crimes of Vladimir Putin and his army. We have all seen the scenes. Some Ukrainian people have made their lives in Ireland, in places like Dundalk. They have seen what we have seen. It is a lot more real for them. We can only commend the courage of those who have returned to fight a foreign…

Flood Risk Management

I ask the Minister of State the status of flood relief measures for County Louth, including the catchment flood risk assessment and management, CFRAM, programme; the progress to date; and the additional staffing resources that will be provided by the Office of Public Works, OPW, to Louth County Council.

Flood Risk Management

Obviously, projects such as those for Dundalk, Blackrock, south Drogheda, Carlingford, Greenore, Baltray and Ardee are vital for the future. Given the circumstances we find ourselves in regarding climate change, etc., it is absolutely necessary that we get them done as soon as possible. In fairness to the Minister of State, he furnished me with some details in writing a week or so ago, which I appreciate. There is a wider question, which relates to places such as Annagassan and Termonfeckin. I understand the CFRAM …

Flood Risk Management

I appreciate the Minister of State's answer. It is vital that due diligence is carried out as to what best fits in sorting the problems in places such as Annagassan and Termonfeckin. I am also thinking of areas such as Dromiskin that have flooding difficulties. Will any other places be considered for the these types of SVRs? Beyond that, is there a wider timetable for when some of these projects will start to be put in place properly, having regard to the planning difficulties about which the Minister of State has …

I am not sure it is. I ask the Minister for an update in that regard, given this morning's events involving the Russian invasion. Beyond that, a task force on telephone scams and hacking is meeting at this time. Does he have any update on how it is operating?

Energy Policy

I thank the Minister of State for taking this Topical Issue so late in the evening. I would have much preferred that the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Deputy Eamon Ryan, took this on the basis that I spoke to him previously in relation to it this week. I have sent information on to him. He was also involved in launching this scheme once upon a time in 2007. At that time at Carlinn Hall, the idea was that it was billed as the State's largest sustainable energy development. The homes went …

Energy Policy

I appreciate the Minister of State's response and will follow up with the Minister on the matter. We all accept the benefits of district heating systems when they use overflow heat, which would otherwise be waste, but that is not the case here. From an environmental point of view, they are a complete disaster in the sense that they must use 100 units to get 50 units of heat. That is not going to work. As anyone who has made contact with the CRU will know, it maintains it does not have responsibility in this field, …

Cabinet Committees

Given the circumstances at this time and the incredible dangers for the people in Ukraine, the State, through the embassy, has told Irish people in Ukraine to leave. I have been contacted by a constituent of mine who has said there are still major difficulties with visas for his family members who are non-Irish. That is something we need to move on. I believe the British Government and others have moved on it. It can be incredibly difficult to go through a third EU country. I have spoken to the Minister for Foreign…

Good Friday Agreement

I add my voice to the condolences on the tragic death of Christopher Stalford. I offer my condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. The Taoiseach and I have had a number of interactions about citizens' assemblies. He knows where I stand and I know where he stands. He has stated that he does not believe there is sufficient depth in a citizens' assembly to deal with the issue of unity and what unity would look like. He has spoken about the shared island dialogue. In what way could the shared island dialogue …
