The problem is in north County Louth. Deputy Fitzpatrick is right.
On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 55 of 1,141 decisive votes (16 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.
This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

I will deal with the issue of the grades and I do not have time to get in of the ins and outs of who knew what and when. The Minister said all students will get the courses they deserve on the basis of the marks. Does that mean this year? Is this absolutely guaranteed? I have heard other commentary that suggests differently. With regard to how this happened, I have questions about the testing. As the worst programmer that ever walked God's green earth, I know we have all come up with sample data that we run through…
At this point we all accept that the period of time we are dealing with is at least six to nine months. A number of Members mentioned the necessity for test, trace and isolate capacity. I reiterate that somebody must examine areas such as Dundalk and north County Louth, which has problems at present with an increase in cases. However, the test centre is moving to Ardee. That must be examined. In fairness, Deputy Munster has been strongly urging that Drogheda also needs a test centre. These are two major urban areas…
Unless I get speaking time from another Member.
I would like to know the Government's plans for the insurance sector. While we welcome the Law Reform Commission report, which is very beneficial, we are all waiting on the Judicial Council review. The Alliance for Insurance Reform has stated there may be a need for a plan B, which is possibly legislating to deal with cases if the Judiciary does not step up to the mark. This is about the significant pay-outs while there is the continuing travesty of dual pricing. In my constituency, a community centre was charged €…
The Minister, Deputy Donohoe, is not here. It is not that I expect him to be here to answer me but it would be preferable, given the importance of the issue. We need to resolve this matter. Many families were given a break on loans and mortgages. The Government figures are around 89,000. There is now a roadmap for the pandemic which will be at least six months. We are all meant to be in it together yet the banks have refused to continue mortgage and loan breaks. The Government does not have a great deal of credibil…
I am not sure that we got an answer. The only answer that I can take from the reply is that banks will be offering one-to-one solutions. We will now be relying on the innate goodness of banks, which has not been evident in this State to date. I want to know what the Government is actually going to do. This issue will not end today - we will have to revisit it in many forms. We were told during the period of austerity that certain institutions and banks were too big to fail. While I welcome the fact that fewer peopl…
We need to see what actions the Government is delivering. We have heard the annoying and disgraceful news relating to the close relationship between Fine Gael in particular and the financial sector.
I have to agree with what several speakers have said. The conversation on Irish unity has begun. It has undoubtedly been sped up by Brexit and the madness of the Internal Market Bill. We have recently heard mention of Bloody Sunday. Last week I spoke about the case of Seamus Ludlow, who was killed by loyalists and members of the British Army. The reality is that British rule in Ireland has never been good and Boris Johnson has just given everybody a reminder of that. It is straightforward. The idea that we must tug…
Brexit could put this question in front of us a lot more quickly.
Fianna Fáil opposed the State for a period of time.
Not to waste a question or answer on CFRAM, as a colleague from another constituency has put down a question, I assume the Minister of State has an answer to my question on flood protection.
I refer to such measures in Dundalk, Drogheda and across County Louth. Will the Minister of State very quickly synopsise the timeline for those flood defences?
My question relates to testing centres. We also have a difficulty with the numbers in County Louth at present, specifically at the north end of the county. We are talking about the test centre being moved from Dundalk to Ardee. Deputy Munster has mentioned on many occasions that there is no test centre in Drogheda. We are talking about two large urban setting and chasing down this virus. We need to look at rapid testing and other matters but we need to ensure there are test centres in the right places. There is a d…
The HSE is operating one per county.
The Covid pandemic has shown up weaknesses in our society in respect of the housing crisis, workers' rights, ICU bed ratios and so on. In case anybody thought Irish history had stopped in 1998, Boris Johnson's handling of Brexit has shown why his country was sometimes called "perfidious Albion". We know that the provisions of the UK Internal Market Bill and the circumventing of the Irish protocol would serve to cut out part of the Good Friday Agreement. I do not accept that the agreement is the final answer to the …
I would like the Taoiseach to commit Government support to the family of Seamus Ludlow. Seamus Ludlow was a man who was killed in May 1976 outside Dundalk by loyalists, including members of the British Army. Yesterday, we heard the news that Mr. Jon Boutcher will lead a cross-border investigation, that is, an investigation involving the North and South. There were absolute failings on the part of the Garda, RUC and politicians north and south. We have all seen "Unquiet Graves" in the past while and know the reality…
I wish to deal with the issue of mental health services, particularly in County Louth. I am looking to draw attention to two particular cases. There has long been a belief among the population of Dundalk and County Louth that we do not have a mental health service that is fit for purpose. Ian Browne was 25 years old when he died by suicide on Thursday, 14 March 2019. On Tuesday, 12 March, Ian spoke to his counsellor, who referred him to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital's emergency department so he could get the equival…
I appreciate what the Minister of State, Deputy Rabbitte, says. The reason I referred to those two families was that they did what we tell people to do. If one has problems, one is told to present to the correct services and they will deal with it. It seems that this did not happen in these cases. I welcome what the Minister of State said regarding a possible follow-up meeting with the Minister of State, Deputy Butler, involving the head of the local CHO and whoever else needs to be there. We need a facility for an…
It is incredibly important that this fifth EU anti-money laundering directive is transposed into law. We cannot leave inconsistencies and weaknesses open for criminals because criminality is constantly evolving and we need to ensure that our capacity to fight it also evolves. In the past while, there have been cases of online fraud and new revenue streams for criminals. We must ensure that banks and our legal and policing frameworks are able to deal with this. The football field rave that we saw recently shows the …
