On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 55 of 1,141 decisive votes (16 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Microenterprise Loan Fund (Amendment) Bill 2024: Second Stage

We will support this Bill. It is a strange day and who knows what the future holds now? Others have said - and I wish to make sure my voice is noted on this - that if we are going to have a change of Taoiseach, the people should be asked about it. I do not have control over that, though, and who knows-----

Microenterprise Loan Fund (Amendment) Bill 2024: Second Stage

-----I go off at a tangent. I do not think anyone will be against the idea of Microfinance Ireland coming under State control. I do not think anybody will have any difficulty with any streamlining. It is exactly as Deputy Quinlivan says. It is a fact, though, that we need to look at the relationship between some of these smaller enterprises and the banking and lending sector. We know the issues that arose during austerity. We need to make sure not only that we streamline the system but also that credit is actually …

Microenterprise Loan Fund (Amendment) Bill 2024: Second Stage

But I think house prices are impacting businesses. We support this Bill. We need to consider the wider issue of ensuring we can provide proper credit and additional supports to companies. I welcome the positive interactions I have had with the Minister of State, but who knows what the future holds? I hope we can get a couple of these things across the line before there is change. I would like to think that change would be a change of government and an election, but this would probably be the wrong time to talk abou…

General Practice and Local Health Services: Motion [Private Members]

I thank Deputy Cullinane for bringing this motion forward. We could deal with the multiple proposals he has put forward, but I just wish to deal with one. I refer to developing a public contract for GPs and launching a pilot programme in areas where there are shortages of GPs for out-of-hours services and leave cover. We all know the issues that exist, including in my town of Dundalk. There are many people in surgeries who cannot see a GP without waiting for two weeks unless it is an emergency. We know of people wh…

Energy Policy

Has any consideration been given to the grant scheme that exists or whether there is a need for a new grant scheme that would assist with the conversion of a gas-fed community or communal district heating system in Carlinn Hall in Dundalk to a more sustainable renewable fuel-run system? Obviously, the district heating steering group got the SEAI to produce a report into a number of alternatives, including geothermal, but my big ask is that there be engagement with the management company - the residents and all the …

Energy Policy

I welcome the fact the report was produced as it is necessary not just for this particular communal heating system but the idea of communal and district heating systems across the board. However, there needs to be some element of engagement, including with the management company, which in real terms is a number of the residents who would generally go back to the rest of the residents regarding making any determination. They are willing to use whatever schemes are there. I hope they are all fit for purpose. If there…

I would like to think this engagement would happen. Will the Minister's office assist in ensuring it can happen? I will be in contact with the Minister about that because we need to deal with this in some sort of structured way while accepting the difficulties and third parties that are involved.
