On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 353 of 356 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Aviation Sector: Statements

I thank the Minister of State for her contribution and work in this respect. We have had a very good and extensive debate throughout this afternoon about the main players in the sector and what is required in terms of strategies and supports. A key component of the whole sector that has not had much mention here this afternoon is the Irish travel agents, which also come under the auspices of the office of the Minister of the State as they are licensed under the Commission for Aviation Regulation. International trav…

We will now move the Independent Group. I call Senator Sharon Keogan.

I have to ask the Senator to conclude because we have a tight schedule.

Planning and Development (Amendment) (No. 3) Bill 2021: Second Stage

Senator Warfield is next to speak on the assigned list of speakers. I note that Senator Moynihan is in the Chamber. I wish to point out that the Labour Party has not submitted anybody to speak here today so the slot was reassigned to other groups.

Planning and Development (Amendment) (No. 3) Bill 2021: Second Stage

I thank the Senator for comparing the Minister with Ronald Reagan. I was going to say that instead of the Minister tearing down walls he is trying to build walls but that would mean comparing him with a different US President.

Planning and Development (Amendment) (No. 3) Bill 2021: Second Stage

I echo what many have said in their praise for the local authority members who have conducted their business during this process, such as in my county of Meath. As Senator Keogan said, they have done a significant amount of this work online.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

I welcome the confirmation in the past hour from the Northern Ireland Executive that the Government of Mauritius has agreed to re-examine the murder of Tyronewoman Michaela McAreavey. I welcome the intervention in this matter by the First Minister and Deputy First Minister in the North. I must mention, in particular, that it is the last act of Ms Arlene Foster as First Minister before she resigned. It is hard to believe that ten years have passed since Michaela was murdered on her honeymoon in Mauritius in 2011. Th…

Right to Housing: Motion

I welcome the Minister of State to the House. I pay tribute to Senator Fitzpatrick for tabling the motion. She has been a tenacious battler in advocating for the right to housing and the importance of sustainable housing. Her contributions on this topic in the year since she came to the House, both in this Chamber and in committee, have been very significant. Many will ask what it matters whether we have a referendum on housing. They might argue that the many millions of euro that would be saved by not having a ref…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

There has been much debate in these Houses in recent months concerning the Climate Action and Low-Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2020. Recently, on the far side of the globe, the world's most advanced recycling centre for construction waste opened in Sydney. This $100 million facility uses ballistic separators and optical sorting technology to process 7,000 tonnes of waste daily, including brick, concrete, timber and metal material, and approximately 90% of it is recycled. I mention this because all of that hi…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

I wish to raise the issue of access to vaccines for rare diseases where the vaccines are only available abroad and the cost of accessing these life-saving vaccines is prohibitive. A very high-profile case in my own county was highlighted last weekend involving a five-year-old boy called Nahyan Javed, who has neuroblastoma. Since last year, when a tumour was discovered behind his heart, he has undergone nine chemotherapy sessions, a stem cell transplant and immunotherapy. While this has stemmed its progression, the …

Young People: Motion

I warmly welcome the Minister. We are discussing young people but the voice of young people has been quite prevalent in these Houses in recent weeks. Three weeks ago, students from Tallaght Community School and Kinsale Community School appeared before the media committee and discussed the online safety Bill from their perspective. Their inclusion as part of the debate was critical, especially when, over the past year, the only way they could communicate was by way of social media. That was very relevant. Addressing…

Affordable Housing Bill 2021: Second Stage

I welcome the Minister. The sooner we get around to getting this Bill through the House and getting down to the work the better, because as we have seen and as Senator Byrne has just pointed out, we have lost the first quarter of this year with builders not being able to get on site and build, which is what this is all about. I said in so many debates in the previous Dáil that I often wondered who the Opposition thought was going to build the homes. Was it the pixie fairies who were going to come in with magic dust…
