We are not doing that.
On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 875 of 879 decisive votes (3 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.
This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

We are not doing that.
Hear, hear.
Hear, hear.
I thank all the Members for their interesting contributions. It is fitting in this House, as we represent the sovereign will of the Irish people, that we pause to reflect on the past, present and future of the European Union and Ireland's unique and valued place within it. We must never forget when we talk about the European Union that we are the European Union. The European Union is not a foreign entity. It is a union and we are all members of it. We elect the governments that make up the Council, we elect the MEP…
This is exactly my point again. We get criticised by the Opposition and the Government of Israel.
The actions the Irish Government has taken have been very much appreciated by the people of Palestine, not only in the context of our practical, financial and humanitarian support, but also by our recognition of their country as well. We are very much an outlier in the European Union in that regard. While we will keep talking to our European colleagues on this issue, there are different views around the European table. That is a reality we must live with. I look forward to our Presidency of the Council of the Europ…
Tá áthas orm a bheith anseo le Seanadóirí inniu. Gabhaim buíochas leo as ucht na deise seo chun Lá na hEorpa a cheiliúradh anseo sa Seanad. Mar is eol dóibh, mar Bhaill den Teach seo, beidh comóradh 75 bliain Fhorógra Schuman againn i mbliana. This visionary proposal signalled the start of European integration and acted as the earliest foundation of what is now the European Union. It is often said that the Schuman Declaration was a "peace project". That was John Hume's inspiration. The first two sentences of the Sc…
Not us.
The Lithuanians fear for their lives at the moment.
I agree with it.
I am not defending it. I am stating their state of mind.
I thank all Senators for their contributions to the debate. We have all, in some ways, quoted from the Schuman Declaration. It is important to remember, and Senator Higgins is right, that the original proposal for the European Union was to physically merge the coal and steel industries of Europe so it would not just be theoretically impossible to have a war on the European Continent between those countries, but it would be practically impossible as they would not be able to make weapons to fight against each other.…
The Security Council is the only body that can mandate rules that have to be followed under international law. The General Assembly cannot do that and that has not been the case since the foundation of the United Nations. It simply cannot mandate rules that have to be complied with under international law.
We cannot allow Russia and China to continue to dictate the pace in the work we do as a sovereign country in the European Union. I also thank my colleagues from the Government side who have raised very important issues. I thank Senator Casey and Senator O'Loughlin, who talked about their work on the Council of Europe which, of course, works very closely with the European Union. Senator Paul Daly mentioned the Common Agricultural Policy, and I can say that as the multi-annual financial framework negotiations start -…
I move amendment No. 2: To delete all words after "Dáil Éireann" and substitute the following: "notes that the United States (US) has implemented tariffs on all of its trading partners, with the European Union (EU) and Ireland facing tariffs of: — 25 per cent on steel, aluminium and derivatives since 12th March; — 25 per cent on the automotive sector since 3rd April; and — 10 per cent on remaining goods since 5th April, rising to 20 per cent on 9th April; further notes that the pharmaceutical and semiconductor sect…
He absolutely would not say it to any investor.
From this Government's perspective, investors are welcome to Ireland. We have one of the most educated countries in the world-----
-----and one of the best workforces in the world-----
-----and we are one of the most advanced countries and democracies in the world. We have a competitive, consistent and a transparent corporate tax regime, good access and connectivity and an excellent return on investment. The Irish sites of leading global companies play a key role in creating or adding value to the goods and services that underpin the modern global economy anchored in our membership of the European Union. Policies, strategies and the legislative toolkit are kept under constant review. Deputy Tóibí…
-----and the sooner that trade agreement is fully ratified, the better because it is of huge benefit for our indigenous sector, which Deputy Tóibín talks so much about. We should really have a united front on this because that reduces the burden, and economic cost and gives huge opportunities for businesses here in Ireland. We are living together in challenging times. There are no winners if tariffs are introduced. We believe in free open trade and investment. Trade is the source of our prosperity in this country a…
