On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 875 of 879 decisive votes (3 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Schools Building Projects

I thank the Senator for raising this matter as it lets me have the opportunity to provide an update to the Seanad on the current position relating to the provision of a new school building for Clonturk Community College. Clonturk Community College is a multidenominational school under the patronage of City of Dublin Education and Training Board, ETB. It was established in September 2016 as a start-up second level school by City of Dublin Education and Training Board with Educate Together as a trustee partner. The s…

Schools Building Projects

I will raise those points with the Department. Indeed, the Department will continue to keep the patron and the school updated as the project progresses and with regard to interim accommodation pending delivery of the permanent school building.

Policing, Protests and Public Order: Statements

I express my sympathy and solidarity with those victims of the attack, which was the first thing that happened on Thursday. Some children and carers were viciously attacked. I certainly support An Garda Síochána in its investigation of this and in the prosecution of the individual responsible. I also thank those bystanders who took the initiative to prevent further attacks. They also deserve our eternal thanks, and are an example to the rest of us. It is also important that we give our full support to An Garda Síoc…

School Enrolments

Ba mhaith liom mo bhuíochas a ghabháil leis an Teachta as an ábhar seo a ardú. It gives me the opportunity to set out for the House the position on post-primary school places in Greystones in September of next year. I assure the Deputy that the provision of school places to meet the needs of children and young people at primary and post-primary levels, including children and young people with special educational needs, is an absolute priority for the Department. As the Deputy may be aware, for school planning purpo…

School Enrolments

I thank the Deputy for raising the issue and doing her job as a constituency TD, as I did myself in the Opposition benches and continue to do as a Minister of State in respect of similar scenarios. Her raising of the issue is a chance to outline the position of the Department. The Minister and Department are correct that there is a strong pipeline of project delivery for schools in the area, and these projects are delivering capacity. The Department has been in contact with schools and patrons and is aware of the s…

Disease Management

Gabhaim buíochas leis an Teachta as an ábhar seo a ardú anocht. I think all of us fully appreciate how devastating a diagnosis of a rare disease can be for patients, families, and carers. I believe that there is cross-party support for doing everything we can to help patients who live with these conditions on a daily basis. In February, on Rare Diseases Day, the Minister for Health announced a plan to develop a revised national rare disease plan, in line with the commitment in the programme for Government. Initial …

Disease Management

I thank the Deputy for providing the opportunity to discuss this matter and I acknowledge his work in the area. Many rare conditions are complex and the impact for patients living with them can be severe. At times, it can be difficult to access appropriate medications and technology. The development of a successor to the previous national rare diseases plan is a key priority for the Department to ensure that there is a plan in place to drive improvements for rare disease patients and their families. As part of the …

Bus Services

Gabhaim buíochas leis an Teachta Lahart. Is ábhar an-tábhachtach é seo. I think you need more buses. There is no doubt about it. The Deputy has raised a lot of issues there and I will be happy to pass them to the Minister, Deputy Ryan, and the Minister of State, Deputy Chambers, and make it clear what the Deputy’s constituents are saying. The Minister for Transport has responsibility for policy and funding but neither the Minister nor his officials are involved in the day-to-day operation. As the Deputy knows, the …

Bus Services

I want to assure the Deputy that the Minister recognises that connectivity is hugely important. The Deputy has agreed with me that there has been a lot of Government investment in public transport. That is the case, and I know that the Deputy and I were strong backers and supporters of that. It is true that some areas are losing a direct connection but if the service is running as advertised, there should be more connections overall. There should be more direct services, a higher frequency and some brand new servic…

Water Supply

The Minister, Deputy Darragh O'Brien sends apologies and has asked me to attend this evening in his place to address this important issue in County Mayo. I thank Deputy Conway-Walsh for raising this issue and for allowing me the opportunity to outline the position regarding public water in Clare Island, and group water schemes in Mayo. As the Deputy will understand, the supply of public water and the provision of water services in general are matters for Uisce Éireann in the first instance. However, the Department …

Water Supply

I thank Deputy Conway-Walsh for raising the question. Indeed, we have our own water supply issues in my constituency where there are areas left for significant periods without water but, thanks to the investment the Government is putting into my constituency and, indeed, to the Deputy's constituency at Clare Island, I believe these problems are being ironed out and solved. A number of projects are being finalised for Clare Island. One is a package ultraviolet unit. As there is no crypto barrier and crypto has been …

Palestine: Motion [Private Members]

I thank the Deputies for their contributions. We have had several debates on the situation in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories in the House in recent weeks. It is clear there is genuine concern on all sides of the Dáil for the situation people in the region are now facing. I very much welcome that a truce, insofar as it goes, has been announced between Israel and Hamas and that some of the hostages held in Gaza will be released. The Government has continually called for a humanitarian ceasefire and f…

Fáiltím roimh an deis an t-eolas is déanaí a thabhairt don Seanad faoinár bpleananna forbartha um chaipiteal agus beartas spóirt. Táim ag súil le tuairimí na Seanadóirí a chloisteáil. Ba mhór an onóir dom gur ceapadh mé i m'Aire Stáit le freagracht as an spórt agus as an gcorpoideachas. Ó ceapadh mé, tá tiomantas, paisean agus fís na n-eagraíochtaí spóirt ar fud na tíre tar éis dul go mór i bhfeidhm orm agus na heagraíochtaí sin ag iarraidh a n-áiseanna spóirt a fhorbairt. Maidir leis seo, tá dhá scéim ghníomhacha …
