On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 172 of 425 decisive votes (10 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Death of Former Member: Expressions of Sympathy

On behalf of the Regional Group I would like to extend our sympathies to Helena, Bobby's wife; his daughter, Triona; his sons, Bob and Mark; and the extended family and friends. I know their nephew Robert well. He is a garda in Wexford. Clare, Bobby's sister, lives not far from me. Although our paths never crossed as I am quite new to politics, I am well aware of the great dynasty of the Aylward family. They are not far away in Mullinavat and we have a lot in common, including many neighbours. From the perspective …

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

It is déjà vu again. I am once again bringing to the floor the non-payment of the pandemic recognition payment. It appears we have a very serious situation in community healthcare organisation, CHO, 5, which covers my constituency of Wexford. Home support resource managers there have not received the payment while their counterparts in CHOs 1, 4 and 7 have. I understand the decision not to allow the payment to these managers in CHO 5 has been appealed with no response. We have a recruitment-and-retention crisis and…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

Page 45 of the programme for Government details the importance of primary and community care as being at the heart of Sláintecare. Little baby Jacob from Wellingtonbridge was born in February of this year with complex medical needs and requires 24-hour nursing care. Jacob has undergone three heart surgeries this year and his family are now at breaking point. His parents are struggling to care for him. After five months, Jacob was approved for HSE night nursing but he is now nine months old and none has materialised…

Gambling Regulation Bill 2022: Second Stage

I welcome the publication of this Bill, which is long overdue and urgently required. Our existing laws on gambling are hopelessly outdated and have created a situation where a significant cohort of our citizens are exposed to serious risk and hardship as a consequence of uncontrolled online gambling. It is said that a society can be judged by the way it treats its weakest and most vulnerable citizens. In that cohort, I include people who suffer a gambling addiction and whose lives are blighted by chasing losses and…

Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund Regulations 2022: Motion

In a 2017 report, it was estimated that more than 5,000 were in employment either directly in the greyhound industry or as an indirect result of it. The greyhound sector is worth more than €300 million to the Irish economy and the funding provided to it comes from a betting tax that is used to fund both greyhound racing and horse racing. The sports are therefore self-financing. With the employment figures I have mentioned and the industry's value to the Irish economy, it appears the funding is money well spent. In …

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

Last Christmas Day, we had a flood in Wexford. Ten days later, a scheme opened. On 2 November, a month ago, we had a tornado in south County Wexford, as I have brought to the floor before. Last night they held their second meeting. I was the only Deputy for the county, for the second time, to attend with these families, who have suffered more than €1 million worth of damage between them. No scheme was mentioned. We met last week Oireachtas Members in County Wexford. In a week, nothing has come from Cabinet. We are …

Toll Charge Increases: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members]

I thank Sinn Féin for preparing this motion and for bringing it forward. The toll increase is just another example of the arms of the State imposing greater costs on people during the cost-of-living crisis. Much of what I would have said has already been said about the money these toll companies are making. The Minister is only too well aware of the many proposals that have been put to him, and to the Minister of State who was here before him in the Chamber, on whether we are getting value for money. As the Ministe…

On what date will the Department take control of the community specialist disability functions, including the children's disability network teams?

Disability Services

I thank the Minister. I concur with everything he has said about why we are doing this. The reality is that it is hugely disappointing, as it was mooted to happen last July, then September. I found out that it had not happened when the Minister's Department appeared in front of the Committee of Public Accounts and I was informed it was not any closer because there were still things to be ironed out. I met CHO 5 last week. It contains the children's disability network team in my area. It is haemorrhaging staff becau…
