On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 30 of 498 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Reopening Ireland (Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment): Statements

I thank Senator Conway. Before I call Senator Cassells, I am conscious that we now have seven Senators waiting to speak. With six minutes each, that is 42 minutes and the Minister of State also has to respond. There are only 28 minutes left. I ask Senators to be conscious of their time. It would be great if they could tighten it up so everyone has an opportunity to speak.

Reopening Ireland (Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment): Statements

Senator Currie should be conscious of the time as the Minister of State must come in at 3.25 p.m.

Reopening Ireland (Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment): Statements

Sorry. I have some guidance on this. I am advised that referring to Members who may not be here or may be at committees is not the done practice. Will the Senator be mindful of that?

Reopening Ireland (Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment): Statements

Could Members take their seats? I am advised that Members who are not here may be on other business, be it governmental or departmental. We cannot attribute any reason they are not here. If Members would please respect that. It is not my ruling. It is what I have been advised.

I am also advised it is not relevant.

Reopening Ireland (Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment): Statements

I have been advised - it is not my ruling - that Members may be on other business. It is a convention of the House. I am pretty new to it. Could we just bear that in mind?

Reopening Ireland (Department of Health): Statements

I thank the Minister of State for coming in. I thank the House and the Leader for facilitating two sessions on this matter and it is timely, appropriate and right to have statements in this House on reopening Ireland. I am conscious in particular of the 2,000 people who have died. As the Minister of State has rightly said, they represent husbands, wives, partners, family, brothers and sisters who connect into a bigger family and, ultimately, a community family and the nation. It is clear to us all, particularly tho…

Planning and Development Bill 2020: Second Stage

I welcome the Minister to the House. This is the first time we have been in this House together so I take this opportunity to congratulate him on his appointment. We soldiered together on the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government. The Minister has been on all sides of this debate, brief and portfolio. I wish him well and every success in it. On the Minister's apology and clarification in regard to the pre-legislative scrutiny, I fully accept his bona fides. On the Planning and Develop…

Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund Regulations 2020: Motion

I welcome the Minister. We met yesterday evening at the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Agriculture and the Marine and discussed this issue at length. I will not repeat some of the issues I raised there. I have an interest in racing and am a regular attendee at Punchestown, The Curragh and Naas in County Kildare and, of course, Leopardstown which is quite close to where I live. I wish to put that on the record. I am a supporter of the industry and wish to use my time to discuss horse racing and the work of Horse Raci…

Inquiry into the Murder of Mr. Patrick Finucane: Motion

I welcome the Minister for Foreign Affairs to the House. I thank him for his words and do not doubt his commitment. It is important that we acknowledge, together with that of the Taoiseach, his consistency of approach and engagement with the Patrick Finucane case with the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and the British Prime Minister. The very fact that the Minister is here is a strong signal and indication of support.
