On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 30 of 498 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Planning and Development and Foreshore (Amendment) Bill 2022: [Seanad Bill amended by the Dáil] Report and Final Stages

I echo some of the concerns of the two previous speakers. Do I need a lesson in short notice for meetings, and virtual ones at that? That is a question for another day. I sit on three audit committees, one of which is the Oireachtas audit committee. It deals with audits relating to Oireachtas Members, their pay, security and a whole range of other issues but I am sure Members would be appalled if they thought the audit committee could discuss the Minister of State and his pay, for example, at a virtual meeting. It …

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

I note there is a huge amount of business on the Order of Business and it is our task and our job get through it, and I hope we will. I take this opportunity to thank the Leader's office because it is important to do so as we come to the end of another political term. I also acknowledge the significant work Ms Orla Murray in the Leader's office does in the context of organising the Order of Business. It is not an easy task to balance all the demands, all the asks and all the legislation and put it into a structure …

Appointment of Ordinary Members of An Coimisiún Toghcháin: Motion

I welcome the Minister of State and commend him on this legislation. It was considered a great deal by the Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage, of which I am a member. We teased out many options. We heard from many people. The independence of the Electoral Commission is critically important. I have every confidence it will be independent. The Government has really tackled this. The days historically of gerrymandering constituencies and manoeuvering for political expedience and political f…

Health Insurance (Amendment) Bill 2022: Second and Subsequent Stages

I welcome the Minister of State. At the outset, I echo what Senator Buttimer said. I thank the Minister of State for her ongoing engagement and support in this House at all times, be it for Commencement matters or legislation. She is always willing and ready to come to the House and meaningfully engage with Members. That is acknowledged and appreciated across the House. I wish her well at the weekend's deliberations and all that goes with that. To get back to business, we are dealing with the Health Insurance (Amen…

Tailte Éireann Bill 2022: Committee and Remaining Stages

I will follow on from what Senator Higgins has said. I do not know if any Senators have visited the Ordnance Survey Ireland, OSI, premises in the Phoenix Park. It is a unique and amazing premises. I have visited it and looked through many of the historical manuscripts and maps. It is an important facility. I raised this matter with the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, who happened to take part of this Bill, given that he has responsibility for heritage. It is a unique building and a protected st…

Animal Health and Welfare (Dogs) Bill 2022: Second Stage

I thank the Minister of State for taking this Bill. I acknowledge the significant work Senator Boylan has put into this. She is an active member of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine, along with Senator Lombard. I am also on the committee as are other Senators. One thing I can honestly say about Senator Boylan is that from the very day I met her when she came in here I knew she had genuine concern for and commitment to animal welfare. She has been consistent about it and has consiste…

The Minister of State at the Department of Health, with responsibility for mental health and older people, Deputy Mary Butler, is very welcome to the House. Our next Commencement matter is in the name of Senator Lisa Chambers and it relates to the western rail corridor.
