On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 666 of 673 decisive votes (2 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Gabhaim buíochas leis an Aire Stáit as ucht teacht isteach agus é seo a thógáil. It is fitting that today, when I did something I only do once a week and collected my post in Leinster House, I got Government notice of statutory instruments designating special areas of conservation in County Galway, for the attention of land owners and land users. These are designated special areas of conservation that have now been confirmed at EU level. They afford huge environmental protection. In fact, people would argue that th…

This reply is unusually helpful. We normally get two or three pages that never address the issue until the last three lines. I thank the Minister of State for that and for the effort that has been put into giving a meaningful answer. I think he would agree it would a reasonable supposition that whatever guidelines are brought in on land in terms of height versus setback would apply on near inshore and offshore turbines. I will table a Topical Issue matter - I might get lucky again in the Topical Issue lottery - to …

What progress has been made in considering the strategic rail review since the establishment of the Northern Ireland Assembly? Will the Minister give some indication of when this rail review, for which everyone has been waiting a long time, will finally be published?

Unfortunately, I was chairing a committee at that stage.

It is a relatively recent invention of Government that the purely economic case of everything has to be justified. There are many things we do in society for societal good that do not make economic sense but they make social sense, regional balance sense and common sense, which is becoming very uncommon. Will the Minister outline the procedures? He has outlined the first one, where he has asked the European Investment Bank to look at this. Will he outline the procedures we will have between now and making firm deci…

I provided funding of, I think, €5 million to clear the line from Collooney, all the way down to the CLÁR area boundary, which was south of Claremorris, back in 2006. What we need now is construction. We know the line is intact. We have been trying to explain that for a long time. It is intact from Collooney. That section of the line was cleared last year, but perennially clearing the line is not building the line. I have an interesting question for the Minister. The biggest cost inhibitor is what is called buildin…

Did Iarnród Éireann do a survey on the line from Collooney to Athenry? Did it find any difference in the condition of the line north of Claremorris compared with the line south of Claremorris?

Ceisteanna Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

My commiserations to all those who have suffered or are suffering as a result of the Dublin and Monaghan bombings 50 years ago. In view of this atrocity, of the recent revelations in the Kenova inquiry and many other instances of counterinsurgency and of the continued operation of British counterinsurgency activities, as evidenced in the McFadden affair, will the Government call on the British Government to institute a full inquiry into past and present counterinsurgency activities by the British State in Ireland, …

A Leas-Cheann Comhairle, ba mhaith liom buíochas a ghlacadh leis an Aire Stáit as teacht ar maidin ach caithfidh mé a rá anseo ar thaifead an Tí go raibh orm cur ina luí ar oifig an Chinn Comhairle maidir le Buan-Ordú 31 i ndáil le hAire as an réimse a fháil. I thank the Minister of State for coming in here today. I put it on the record of the House, however, that I had to invoke Standing Order 37 to ensure that a Minister or Minister of State from the Department of Health came in to take this question today. I thi…

We come to Clifden near the end. It gets four lines. I ask the Minister of State to go back and inquire of the HSE, through the Department, whether it is intended to develop Clifden District Hospital as a full primary care centre. I want a full primary care centre plus things like X-ray facilities and so on because of the distance from Galway and because the hospital is there already and has been paid for by the State. If I could get that much out of today I would be making some progress. There was planning permiss…

Will the Minister of State skip that bit and come back to Clifden because Moycullen, Spiddal and Galway are all fine. It is about Clifden.
