CC Mark Daly this contribution

I have received notice from the following Senators that they propose to raise the following matters on the Commencement of the Seanad:

Senator Sharon Keogan:

The need for the Minister for Justice to consider establishing a new Garda station for the areas of Laytown and Bettystown, County Meath, in light of new figures from the Central Statistic Office showing an increase in the population.

Senator Robbie Gallagher :

The need for the Minister for Justice to provide an update on the community CCTV applications by Monaghan town and Carrickmacross, County Monaghan.

Senator Seán Kyne:

The need for the Minister for Education to make a statement on post-primary redeployment for teachers and to outline the plans being put in place to support a national voluntary redeployment panel for permanent teachers and those on contracts of indefinite duration status.

Senator Jerry Buttimer:

The need for the Minister for Health to make a statement on the plans to roll-out of the monkeypox vaccine.

Senator Mary Seery Kearney:

The need for the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth to provide an update on negotiations with the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage regarding the potential overturning of the permissible exemption to the requirement to provide childcare facilities in every large-scale development.

Senator Martin Conway:

The need for the Minister for Health to make a statement on his plans to roll out a public information campaign for the correct use of the emergency 999 and 112 telephone numbers following a recent National Ambulance Service report.

Senator Barry Ward:

The need for the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science to ensure that there is academic freedom in third level institutions so that they are insulated from inappropriate external pressure in terms of practices or decisions.

Of the matters raised by the Senators suitable for discussion, I have selected Senators Keogan, Gallagher, Kyne and Buttimer and they will be taken now. I regret that I had to rule out of order the matter raised by Senator Ward on the ground that it anticipates the Report Stage debate on the Higher Education Authority Bill 2022, which is scheduled to take place today.

The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
