Summary of this debate

Auto-generated

I must now deal with a postponed division relating to the motion regarding Part 2 of the Health (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 2021. On Tuesday, 5 October 2021, on the question that the amendment to the motion be agreed to, a division was claimed and in accordance with Standing Order 80(2), that division must be taken now. The question now is: "That the motion be agreed to." On a point of order, I am a Member of this House for almost 20 years now.

It is a well-established fact that neither phones should be used nor photographs taken in the Chamber. The other point I would say is that if the Member is so worried about phones, he should talk to his leader, the Tánaiste, and everyone else who has their phones in here every day of the week. Please do not turn the Chamber into a Ballymagash.

Built by scoring every sentence in the debate on how distinctive its language is, then quoting the highest-scoring ones back word for word and in the order spoken. Nothing is paraphrased or invented — if a sentence appears here, it was said in the chamber. Drawn from 152 words across 19 contributions by 4 speakers.

On a point of order, I am a Member of this House for almost 20 years now. Can I ask what are the procedures around Deputies taking photographs in the Chamber of the voting board? I see Deputies Bríd Smith and Gould are great photographers. On the day that Tom Burke from the Irish Independent has passed away-----

?? A Deputy

I would not be pointing fingers.

CC Seán Ó Fearghaíl

The Deputy is entitled to make a point of order.

FG Paul Kehoe this contribution

The phone would be confiscated if you took a photograph. I think action should be taken.

?? A Deputy

The Deputy is not in the Fine Gael parliamentary party meeting now.

CC Seán Ó Fearghaíl

Could we have silence, please? It is a well-established fact that neither phones should be used nor photographs taken in the Chamber.

FG Paul Kehoe

Hear, hear.

SF Thomas Gould

A Cheann Comhairle, my name was mentioned.

FG Alan Farrell

That does not mean you have to say something.

?? A Deputy

The last thing we need to do is hear from him.

CC Seán Ó Fearghaíl

Resume your seat, Deputy.

SF Thomas Gould

A Cheann Comhairle, my name was mentioned.

CC Seán Ó Fearghaíl

The Deputy should be allowed to answer. Order, please.

SF Thomas Gould

My name was mentioned. I have no problem with people knowing the way I voted. The other point I would say is that if the Member is so worried about phones, he should talk to his leader, the Tánaiste, and everyone else who has their phones in here every day of the week. It is one rule for one and one rule for all. I am not ashamed of-----

?? A Deputy

They would clap for anything in Sinn Féin.
