I support the Deportation Moratorium (Covid-19) Bill 2020. During early March 2020 and in August, September and October 2020, a total of 469 deportation orders were issued, including deportation orders under section 51 of the International Protection Act and deportation orders for those who were otherwise illegal in the State. Almost 500 deportation orders have been issued during this pandemic.
Those people with deportation orders hanging over them are in a very distressed state. For the duration of the pandemic, the Department of Justice should stop issuing deportation orders and no one should face deportation. We may need to consider how deportation orders are couched and the language used in such orders, and put more supports in place for people issued with a deportation order.

Party shown is the one each member held on 2020-12-09, frozen by a dated join — not their party today. The Oireachtas API publishes no date of birth and returns an empty gender field for every member in this period, so no age or gender breakdown is shown.
