What the debate was about

Auto-generated

That is fair enough, but Senator Andrews talked about social housing and local government coming in under the RTB, which is not covered by the Bill. Those families will be living in overcrowded conditions for generations more because, given the rent they are expected to pay, they cannot afford to rent so they will live at home because there is not the social housing. In regard to the RTB, the Minister said there is significant funding but the RTB was set up by a Fianna Fáil Government.

It is an ambitious site with 3,000 units and Senator Andrews bemoaned the fact that more than 500 of them will be affordable housing and 300 of them will be social housing. The reality is there are many local authorities that are not putting their rent from social homes back into social housing.
