On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 1,068 of 1,074 decisive votes (3 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Confidence in Government: Motion

This is a cohesive and hard-working Government. As Government Chief Whip, I can announce that by the end of this session, more than 100 pieces of legislation will have been passed since the Government took office. Each and every one of those pieces of legislation has been enacted to deliver for families and make progress across many areas of policy. More generally, we are committed to focusing on the key issues. As the Minister, Deputy Darragh O'Brien, outlined, home completions are at their highest level in a deca…

Confidence in Government: Motion

This is a cynical move to exploit issues, not solve them, and to drown out every positive measure in a consistently negative and divisive approach. This is just about pursuing a path to power at any cost.

Sports Facilities

I appreciate the Deputy raising this issue. I wish to reiterate the commitment of the Government to investment in sport infrastructure across the country. If we are to achieve our ambitious targets for sports participation, we need to have the necessary facilities. As regards the responsibilities of my Department, two schemes provide grant assistance for the development of sports infrastructure, including local authority-owned pitches. The sports capital and equipment programme is the primary vehicle for Government…

Sports Facilities

One thing we are trying to encourage through the sports capital and equipment programme is to have local authority-led municipal sports facilities. We have had many examples of local authorities leading out on that, including Meath County Council. It is commencing work in Dunboyne, for example. There have been projects across the country where local authorities are partnering with a multiplicity of clubs to develop parks in combination with sporting aspects. My Department is a willing partner when it comes to the c…

Swimming Pools

I thank Senator Doherty for raising this important matter. At the outset, I want to reiterate the Government’s commitment to providing the necessary sports facilities right across the country. If we are to achieve our ambitious targets for sports participation, we need the necessary facilities and equipment. Our commitment in this regard was demonstrated in recent months when we announced €150 million in allocations under the sports capital and equipment programme, which was by far the highest level of funding ever…

Swimming Pools

To be fair to Fingal County Council, it was very engaged with Swim Ireland when it came to the pop-up pool in Donabate. That is the trialling of the new concept of delivery around transportable pools. A modular pool is a scaled-up version of that and a more permanent fixture. As a coastal community in Fingal, it is important to have access to swimming pool infrastructure. I take the Senator’s point on that. That is why in the next six months, by year-end, we will have the swimming strategy published. That will, as …
