Special Educational Needs
I thank the Minister of State. That is very reassuring, especially when she mentioned Mr. John Kearney, who I know the Minister of State has said will facilitate a visit to Dundalk in the future. One point I will make is that the extra staff are very welcome and will provide a real ability to cater for these children however there is an issue of actual physical capacity. By that I mean there are a number of secondary schools in Dundalk that have been secondary schools for 100 to 150 years. They are right in the mid…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business
I have raised before in the Seanad the vision for high-speed rail on the island of Ireland, in particular between Belfast and Dublin. I am raising it again today following a meeting that Deputy Carroll MacNeill and I held last week with people who want to support the concept. This would be one of the largest infrastructure projects on the island of Ireland. It is something that will take 20 years at a minimum. If we started on day one with all of government behind high-speed rail, we would not have it on the island…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business
I would like to follow on from the points made by Senator Gallagher. The Good Friday committee, of which I am a member, went on a trip to Belfast approximately a year ago. We met with the families of the disappeared. We met with Oliver McVeigh, who is Columba McVeigh's brother. It is utterly heartbreaking to say the least. I am praying for the McVeigh family and I hope that finally after so many years that they can take their loved one home, give him a Christian burial, and look after him so that he is not left out…

Report of the Commission on the Defence Forces: Statements
I welcome Colonel Sean Grant, the British defence attaché to Ireland, to the House. It is obviously a very important debate and it is great to have him here.

I am due up next but I can stay in the Chair. After the next Fine Gael slot, it will be Senators Chambers, Ward and Buttimer. I was to speak in the next Fine Gael slot so Senator Buttimer is the next Fine Gael speaker.

Report of the Commission on the Defence Forces: Statements
I thank the Leas-Chathaoirleach for taking the Chair. I was not planning on speaking and I will be brief. A number of months ago I visited Aiken Barracks. I was there for the retirement of a friend of mine from the Reserve Defence Force, where he spent 35 years. I was really amazed at the amount of people there who have so much dedication and commitment to the Reserve. I believe this has been forgotten about over the past number of years or perhaps did not get the required amount of funding and support that it shou…

Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) (Amendment) Bill 2022: Committee Stage
Both the Senator and the Minister have spoken on amendment No. 5 when speaking on amendment No. 4. How stands amendment No. 5, Senator?
If Senator Warfield wishes, he can speak to the overall section 5, at which point he can raise any point he has missed on the earlier amendments.

Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) (Amendment) Bill 2022: Committee Stage
Have we a way of resolving this as we have already moved and withdrawn amendment No. 4 with the agreement of the House? We can, however, speak to the overall section 5, which includes amendments Nos. 4 and 5, and in that way the same points can then be made by the Senator. Is that fair?
Can I suggest to Senator Warfield then that he move and withdraw amendment No. 5. We can then move to the overall section, and all Members can then speak on section 5, which can include discussion of any points that were missed on a…

Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) (Amendment) Bill 2022: Committee Stage
I welcome to the Visitors Gallery David Burns and Loy McParland from Ravensdale, County Louth, and indeed Deputy Gannon, who is here with his guests. We are discussing the Assisted Decision-Making Capacity (Amendment) Bill, which I am sure they will all agree is important.
