On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 370 of 373 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Transport Policy

That is a really excellent response from the Minister of State. I thank him for taking that to the House today. I will point out two things. We want to move towards an hourly service. That is exactly what we want to do and that is why it is so important that we have the review on inter-regional rail as well. For the Minister of State's constituency in north Dublin, the issue with the rail traffic coming from Belfast, Newry, Dundalk and Drogheda is the number of commuter trains that start in Laytown, Bettystown and …

Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2021: Motion

I will be brief as I do not want to take time from colleagues who want to come in after me.

Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2021: Motion

I will be brief in order to let other Senators come in after me. It is amazing to look at the trajectory of climate action politics over the last ten or 20 years. Ten to 20 years ago, this type of stuff was on the fringe of political debate and it is now mainstream. This is exactly why politicians of all political parties campaign, namely, to get into government, to introduce the ideas they campaign on and to have landmark, lasting legislation that will stand the test of time. I have no doubt this is landmark legis…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

It is not a case of calling for a debate or anything like that, but I wish to comment on the atrocious language that has been used by Members of the other House regarding some of the greatest atrocities that have been committed against mankind on the European Continent in the past 60 to 70 years. There were references to "Nazi Germany", "1930s Germany" and "the Weimar Republic". Other Deputies have used the term "Stalinist". Stalin murdered between 7 million and 9 million people. Language like this should be rarely…

Land Development Agency Bill 2021: Report and Final Stages

I welcome the Minister, Deputy Darragh O'Brien, to the House. Before we commence, I remind the House that a Senator may only speak once on Report Stage except that the proposer of an amendment may reply to the discussion on the amendment. Also, on Report Stage, each amendment must be seconded. Amendment No. 1 has been ruled out of order.

Land Development Agency Bill 2021: Report and Final Stages

We have been good not to interrupt one another. I have asked others not to do it and I would appreciate if Senator Craughwell could show the same courtesy.

Land Development Agency Bill 2021: Report and Final Stages

I speak in support of my colleague, Senator Cummins, and do not intend to use up any more time. In a very calm and respectful manner, I suggest Senator Keogan misinterpreted what Senator Cummins said. I want to offer her, through the Chair, the opportunity to retract and withdraw that comment now.

Report of Independent Review Group Jadotville: Statements

The Minister has delivered on his commitment and I thank him for that. Several months ago when he stated that the report would be initiated, he gave a clear and definitive timeframe in respect of when he would come back to the House and he has fulfilled that commitment today. I thank him for that. I also thank him and his officials for the engagement they have afforded me and every other Senator. He is one of the few people in recent years who has put a significant effort into this issue and that is to be commended…
