On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 462 of 465 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Health Services Staff

Thanks very much, Acting Chair, and I thank the Minister of State for coming to answer my question. I know it is not his area of responsibility so he can only give me what he has been given. A number of student nurses have contacted me who are in third year and doing their student placement. There was a big announcement that student nurses would receive €500 each and they would receive travel assistance. There are two problems with the system that has been set up, according to the nurses who have been in touch with…

I thank the Minister of State. It is most welcome that the money that student nurses and midwives receive has increased and that these measures are being put in place. Whether it is interpretation by people at the top and that people have taken it up differently, I do not know. However, the case that has been put to me is that not all student nurses qualify for the €500 and not all will be able to avail of the travel and subsistence arrangement. I welcome the fact that the Minister of State will convey my concerns …

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

First, I would like to say to the Corbett family in America that they are in my thoughts. I know the Corbetts well. The way the two young people, Jack and Sarah, conducted themselves over quite a long while is to be commended. I also commend Tracey Corbett Lynch, who is their aunt and stepmother, for all she has done for them over the last number of years. I am thinking of them during what has been a traumatic time. I rise today because next week, on 14 November, it will be World Diabetes Day. We should have a deba…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

I rise to bring up the issue of scams. I have been reading a great deal in local and national newspapers recently about older, vulnerable people in particular being scanned out of money or scammed in different ways. I saw recently a lady was scammed out of €35,000 because she thought she was in a relationship with someone she met online. As we approach Christmas, Black Friday sales are coming along and people are shopping online. People have to be vigilant. Only last week, somebody put their iPad up for sale and me…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

I wish to discuss something I have raised in this House before, which is the working hours and opening hours of the Revenue Commissioners. A number of people have been on to me about this recently, especially with the tax deadline approaching. The offices of the Revenue Commissioners are only open online and over the phone from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. Every other public service in this country has returned to normal working hours. People can walk into buildings, public offices, libraries and different places, but ye…
