On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 52 of 1,007 decisive votes (14 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Road Safety: Statements

I was taken aback for a moment when the Minister for Transport indicated that the new speed limits were broadly welcomed. It reinforced for me the fact that he is a Minister from Dublin and is not really in touch with many people from rural communities. In my constituency the overwhelming response has been one of bewilderment. It is not that people are opposed to the reduction in the speed limits per se , but many people have pointed to roads that are in an absolutely atrocious state due to potholes. Despite this, …

European Union Regulations: Motion

This is my first opportunity to engage with the Minister in the House, so I congratulate him on his appointment. I welcome the opportunity to speak on the proposal to opt in to the negotiating mandate of the EU-UK youth experience scheme, one proposed by the European Commission in April of last year to facilitate youth mobility and make it easier for young people from the EU and Britain, respectively, to study, work and live in Britain and the EU as the case may be. I support the proposal to opt in to the negotiati…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

Earlier today, Sinn Féin met the family of Joe Drennan. Joe was killed in a hit-and-run in October 2023. The man who killed Joe had 46 previous convictions. He was on bail at the time and was banned from driving. That night, he drove a BMW at top speed, broke a red light, smashed a car so fast that even after the back wheel had come off, the car continued to proceed to smash into Joe, robbing him of his young life. That man then got out, wiped down the car and ran away like a coward. Shockingly, he will not serve a…

Programme for Government: Statements (Resumed)

Go raibh maith agat, Ceann Comhairle. I find it laudable, despite the fact they did not use up all their allotted time, that Government representatives could find so much to say about a programme for Government that actually says so little. However, I want to specifically address issues of community safety, policing and justice. As Sinn Féin spokesperson on justice, home affairs and migration, it is my intention to hold this Government to account to ensure that people across this State have safe communities, a fair…

Government’s Response to Storm Éowyn: Statements (Resumed)

I commend those who helped individuals, families and communities following the devastation of Storm Éowyn. These include workers from the ESB, Uisce Éireann, local authorities and phone companies, those local businesses that stood up to the mark to support their communities, the farmers who cleared roads, and those communities that stood together, opened their halls and ensured that assistance was given where and when it was needed. In many respects, we saw the best of Ireland and the Irish people over the past two…

Situation in Palestine: Motion [Private Members]

When Donald Trump stood yesterday and declared he wanted to essentially ethnically cleanse Palestinian land, forcibly transfer tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians from their homeland, replace them with others and essentially create a new society, many people were shocked, except that is essentially the story of Palestine for the past century. The Palestinian story is a story of displacement and confiscation, of international law rendered meaningless, of suffering and of misery. It has continued because the w…
