On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 356 of 832 decisive votes (4 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Gnó na Dála - Business of Dáil

I think I am making a valid point of order; the Ceann Comhairle can tell me whether he will allow it. What is going on here this evening with the deferral of the vote - this is the place where we hear all of the stories - is that the Government is not happy that it has enough numbers this evening and wants to have a better vote next week. Can the Whip confirm, through the Chair, whether that is the problem and why the vote is not being called? That is what is being said.

International Protection, Asylum and Migration: Motion

This pact is about trust. Having canvassed extensively over recent months, like the Ministers, what I am hearing at the doors is that the people do not trust the Government when it comes to migration, and it is hard to see how you could disagree with them when we see the chaotic scenes. I will give a couple of examples. One day, all the agencies of the State come and remove tents in Mount Street and along the canal. They grab them, take them away and dump them. They move the people along and put up barriers, and th…

Nature Restoration Law: Motion [Private Members]

The recent support for the EU nature restoration law by 11 Irish MEPs, including all representatives from Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Green Party earlier this year, has raised concerns about the future of Irish family farms. This law, part of the European Green Deal, requires Ireland to rewet vast areas of land, which is posing a significant threat to small farmers and food security. People broke their backs and worked hard to drain land and turn brown land into green. They slaved for it. The man sitting to my l…

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

The Taoiseach visited Kerry recently and should know better than to come up here and say something like that. That is an insult.

You come up here and go mocking people like that. That is wrong. That is mocking, and you are wrong, Taoiseach. You are 62 days in the job and you should know a lot more than that.

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

Staff of Recovery Haven in Tralee, who are representing 26 cancer support centres, are in the audiovisual room today. They offer psychological and emotional support to cancer patients and their families. Unfortunately, in our ageing population, one in two people will suffer from cancer. The Recovery Haven centre in Tralee is dealing with 70 new cases this month, following 44 in May and 58 in April. The organisation is seeking a commitment to an allocation of €5.5 million in core funding in the 2025 budget. In 2024,…

Planning and Development Bill 2023: Report Stage (Resumed)

I was actually so anxious yesterday about this section we are heading into now that I was inclined to leapfrog because I wanted to come to it. It all comes back to what people are going to see from the outside looking in at what exactly is trying to be achieved in this section. It could be private individuals, whether they want to build a house for themselves in an urban or, more troublesome again, perhaps, rural area. It could be a developer who might be classified as a big developer, even though they are getting …

Planning and Development Bill 2023: Report Stage (Resumed)

I am speaking to the specific amendments we have before us now, and the one thing that jumps out at me from amendment No. 232 are the words "national policies and measures, including those prepared pursuant to the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act 2015". This proposed amendment is from the Minister and ties in with what we touched on earlier concerning costs. When we talk about climate action and building houses and adhering to the aims and aspirations of climate action, we must just remember one thing.…

Planning and Development Bill 2023: Report Stage (Resumed)

It is just what he stands for and much of what comes out of his mouth that I do not like. I have nothing in the world against him personally, however. I would describe him as nothing but a gentleman.

Planning and Development Bill 2023: Report Stage (Resumed)

Nothing I am saying is any reflection on him personally. What I have just described earlier, though, is fact. It is true, and it is what the Minister of State's party propagates and tries to sell to the Irish people and to people around the rest of Europe. What I am saying is that to build a house, it is necessary to have an effect carbon-wise. There is a carbon footprint in a house. The Government, then, must make up its mind whether it wants to build houses. Does the Government wish to house people or does it not…

Planning and Development Bill 2023: Report Stage (Resumed)

I am sorry now, but if the Deputy wants to pick a fight, he should go away and pick on somebody else because if he picks on me, he will lose it. I will tell the Deputy about more of the stupidity that has gone on in this regard over the years.
