Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation
The concentration of landownership in many parts of the country is a problem. It is particularly noticeable in south Tipperary and, indeed, the OPW's activities in north Clare are creating their own pressures. Obviously, the Tánaiste will be aware of the Irish Land Commission. It was abolished in the last century but he was a Deputy at the time. Nobody is proposing that it be reintroduced but many EU member states have measures to control the acquisition of land and the concentration of landownership to ensure that…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business
Will all of south Tipperary have to be owned by one man and trust funds linked to him before the matter is debated in this House and measures are taken to prevent that concentration of land ownership because of the economic and social consequences of that?
Just because one is a large donor to the parties in government, it should not preclude one from examination by this House.
The second point I wish to make, regarding the EU migration pact-----

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business
The migration pact is not one Bill, but it is several. I believe it would be beneficial to this State to opt into some of them, but some of them would be very detrimental. My concern is that this will come back from the justice committee with a motion that we apply and endorse either all measures or none of them. That would be profoundly undemocratic, and I believe it would be detrimental to the interests of this State.

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation
I noticed in the Tánaiste's reply to Deputy Pearse Doherty earlier that he talked about the importance of oversight of State funding and ensuring value for money. The Irish Mirror has learnt that, in addition to the moneys being spent by the Department of agriculture transporting pets from Ukraine, the Department of integration was paying for their accommodation, up to €20 per pet per night, but it varied from centre to centre. It is not possible to establish actually how much money was spent because there is just …

So oversight of State funding is only important when Deputy Doherty raises it.

Taoiseach a Ainmniú - Nomination of Taoiseach
I will begin by paying tribute to Deputies Coveney and Varadkar and their contribution to Irish life at some difficult junctures but I will move on to Deputy Harris as this is a motion of confidence in him as Taoiseach. Over the weekend he promised that he would have the back of farmers, but he has served in a Government which has been on the back of farmers. Like many small business owners, the only thing they get from the Government is a letter warning of new regulations threatening new fines.

Gnó na Dála - Business of Dáil
Is there a particular reason the Dáil is adjourning until 2 p.m. tomorrow? Obviously, the Cabinet has to meet and I wish it the best of luck in the challenges it faces, but surely the Dáil business can continue without the Cabinet to supervise us?
