On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 559 of 562 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Motor Insurance Insolvency Compensation Bill 2024: Second Stage

The Minister of State is very welcome. Fianna Fáil welcomes and supports this crucial Bill which will provide essential protections and ensure timely compensation for Irish motor insurance policyholders in the unfortunate event of an insurer going insolvent. The Motor Insurance Insolvency Compensation Bill 2024 is significant legislation that insures the existing insurance compensation framework within our State. By establishing a centralised compensation body, this Bill makes it easier for policyholders and injure…

Planning and Development Bill 2023: Report Stage (Resumed) and Final Stage

Before I go to the Minister of State, I note that an error was made by the Acting Chair. We should have asked the Minister of State to speak before the Senator, so that was the only engagement on this grouping allowed by the Senator.

As it is now 5.45 p.m., I am required to put the following question in accordance with the order of the Seanad of this day: "That amendment 170 is hereby negated; that the Government amendments undisposed of, including those in respect of which the Bill has been recommitted, are hereby made to the Bill; Fourth Stage is hereby completed and the Bill, as amended, is hereby received for final consideration; and the Bill is hereby passed”. Planning and Development Bill 2023: Committee Stage (Resumed)

I will start with the need for a new planning Bill. Any of us who have been on local authorities and trying to navigate the existing planning legislation will understand the need to overhaul it. I acknowledge the role this Government played in this regard because many other governments thought about doing it and ran away from it. However, this Government took it on and has now produced a new planning Bill. Yes, it will be amended on many occasions in years to come. Nothing is perfect and it is a living document, bu…

Planning and Development Bill 2023: Committee Stage

I was not going to say anything on this until Senator Martin made a few comments with which I cannot agree. My first issue is with his generalisation that local authority members and local authorities themselves basically did nothing only zone land that was in flood zones or that would potentially cause flooding on housing estates further down the road. That is an inaccurate perception of our local authority members. I served on a local authority for 12 years. I have seen two full county development plans go throug…

Planning and Development Bill 2023: Committee Stage

I thank the Senator. In general terms, we are stretching far outside section 1 of the Bill, which clearly outlines the Bill itself. I am not going to take any more contributions on this. Can I ask that section 1 stand-----
