On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 559 of 562 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Consumer Credit (Amendment) Bill 2022: Second Stage

I welcome the Minister of State to the House. If it were ever timely to bring in an item of legislation, that is certainly the case with regard to this Bill given many people will, clearly, face significant challenges in the near future. Fianna Fáil welcomes the Bill, the main purpose of which is to restrict the total cost of credit on moneylending loans, probably as a result of the report on moneylending policy proposals. The report examined the moneylending industry in Ireland and assessed the potential impacts o…

Quality in Public Procurement (Contract Preparation and Award Criteria) Bill 2021: Committee Stage

Before I move on to section 4, I want to acknowledge the presence of our former colleague, former Senator Billy Lawless. I thank him for all the work he has done in trying to connect America and Ireland. That has been challenging over the last couple of years. I welcome him back to the House.

Quality in Public Procurement (Contract Preparation and Award Criteria) Bill 2021: Committee Stage

Amendments Nos. 1 and 2 are related and may be discussed together by agreement. Is that agreed? Agreed. My advice is that there is no clear conflict on this issue but that can be determined after the debate. Having heard the arguments a call can be made on the matter.

Finance (Covid-19 and Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2022: Committee and Remaining Stages

I thank the Government and the Minister for the supports for the hospitality sector over the last two years. As the Minister will know, I am directly involved. As he pointed out, at the end of this month we are coming off all the supports that have been there for the past two years. We always get used to supports and we have to try to wean ourselves off them. We are in a challenging position at the moment. Senator Maria Byrne mentioned staff shortages and there is also the cost of living, so it is appropriate to tr…

Finance (Covid-19 and Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2022: Second Stage

I welcome the Minister to the House to discuss the Finance (Covid-19 and Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2022. As Senator Kyne said, let us hope that the term "Covid-19" is in our rear-view mirror and is not to return again. As the Senator said also, when we look back, we will see what the Government did with the significant supports it gave businesses to survive during the last two years was, in fact, incredible, which most in the business community will acknowledge. While we did not get everything right, we got th…

Rail Network

I thank the Minister of State for taking this matter. As my colleague identified, we are talking about investment in public transport and, specifically, in the Dublin-Rosslare route, which passes through County Wicklow. Whatever additional services can be provided to Rosslare will directly improve the facilities in Wicklow. The service to Wicklow town and Arklow at the moment is a joke. It is not worth even considering it as a mode of public transport to get into and out of work. Rosslare Europort has 34 sailings g…

Rail Network

I, too, understand the Minister of State was handed a written reply and this issue does not relate to his brief, but the answer is totally unacceptable. DART+ does not yet exist and I do not think reopening the western coastal rail line will have much impact on Wicklow and Wexford, so it is disappointing. As my colleague said, the new carriages have not even been identified for this route. The Minister of State might relay our frustration to the Minister that Wicklow and Wexford are again being forgotten about, eve…
