On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 559 of 562 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Planning Issues

I thank the Minister of State for his reply. I had to wait until the very end to get exactly what I needed. When he referred to the MAP Bill, I was concerned that he was going to suggest this project should go through that process, but it is clear that he is not. My issue does not just relate to the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage; it is all Departments. How can a project progress if it does not know when it is going to get an answer or when it can move to the next phase? Realistically and hone…

Finance (European Stability Mechanism and Single Resolution Fund) Bill 2021: Second Stage

I welcome the Minister and thank him and my colleague, the Minister, Deputy Michael McGrath, for a very exceptional budget, at the heart of which was the common good and fairness. The poorest 30% of families will see the greatest gains from Tuesday's budget. That goes to show that fairness was at the heart of that budget. The Bill before us today is rather technical. We will be supporting this Bill, which ratifies the amending agreements on the European Stability Mechanism treaty, the Single Resolution Fund and the…

Budget 2022: Statements (Resumed)

I welcome the Minister of State to the House and thank him for his work on delivering a budget that invests in the needs of all the Irish people as we emerge from the devastation of Covid-19. Being in government means being responsible for managing the money Irish people pay in taxes. There is no magic money tree. We live in a globalised economy and our membership of the European Union provides massive opportunity with a massive Internal Market and a very strong currency but, crucially, we also have a shared respon…

Budget 2022: Statements

This is the second budget of this historic Government coalition, which aims to give the people of Ireland value for the money they pay in taxes by investing wisely in public services such as health and education, and strategically investing in the needs of our people, particularly in the area of housing. We also need to begin the budgetary policies required to make a meaningful contribution to the global problem of climate change. As if achieving these tasks were not serious enough, we also have to take into accoun…

Defective Building Materials

I thank the Minister for coming to the House to answer that important question. As he said, many thousands of families need a resolution to this to allow them to get on with their lives and move forward. I thank the Minister for coming in.

Housing Provision

I thank Senator Cummins for raising this important issue. Unless we build these facilities, we cannot downsize in the first place. They must also be attractive enough for people to want to move into them.

Further and Higher Education

I thank the Minister of State and thank the Senator for raising this important issue. I am sure my fellow constituent and colleague, the Minister, Deputy Harris, will not let us down.

Finance (Local Property Tax) (Amendment) Bill 2021: Second Stage

As we had a good discussion about this at the finance committee last week, I will be brief. First, it must be acknowledged that this review has probably been long overdue, since 2013. I say that in relation to the revaluations. The longer we leave revaluations to be carried out, the harder it becomes to bring in the change. The other significant thing is that this Bill brings into the tax net more than 80,000 properties on which property tax has not been paid since 2013. Anybody who has served on a local authority …

Health (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2021: Second and Subsequent Stages

I welcome the Minister to the House. As someone involved in the industry, it is hard to take what I have heard today. It is even harder to take what was said in the Dáil Chamber on Wednesday night. As the Minister and other speakers have said, Covid is not fair. Nobody disputes that Covid discriminates and has a greater impact on certain sectors of society than on others. We have all seen discrepancies throughout this process. At the start of the pandemic, we asked the elderly to stay at home and not to go out whic…
