On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 535 of 539 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

I want to raise the issue of the startling figures recently announced by the Motor Insurance Bureau of Ireland that 8.3% of motorists are driving around without insurance, which is almost unbelievable. This is a whopping figure of 187,803 and an increase of 32,000 since 2020. While there are strict penalties and sanctions for people who are apprehended without insurance, unfortunately, detection is the issue. Gardaí are not in a position, unless they encounter someone without insurance at a checkpoint, to get a han…

Take that five minutes out of the 16 minutes the Cathaoirleach mentioned.

National Forestry Fund: Motion

I welcome the Minister of State Senator Hackett for the debate. The Government will not oppose the motion. I compliment Senator Boyhan on bringing it before the House. It will open up debate on the concept and model for investment, to use his own words. I would like to have this debate but I suppose we are all carrying the scars from the debate we had on the Gresham House concept. I would be very wary of any forestry fund that would not be specifically geared or aimed towards public-owned land. With any fund, irres…

Housing Schemes

We move to the matter raised by Senator John Cummins. On my own behalf, as a former colleague in this House of the Minister of State, Deputy Kieran O’Donnell, it gives me great pleasure to welcome him back on his first visit to the House in the Minister's chair. I congratulate him on his appointment and wish him all the very best going forward. I call Senator Cummins.

I congratulate Senator Buttimer on his appointment as Cathaoirleach and wish the new Leader, Senator Chambers, the best of luck for the coming term. I will raise the issue of the evolving relationship and partnership between Coillte and an English investment fund, Gresham House, their formation of the Irish strategic forestry fund and the role that is being played in this process by the Irish Strategic Investment Fund, ISIF. There is a lot of concern among the farming community, landowners, rural dwellers and the p…

Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund Regulations 2022: Motion

I welcome the Minister to discuss this issue. I also welcome our visitors from South Carolina. I strongly favour this motion. I record that I am a horse owner and former chairperson of the rural racetrack in Kilbeggan. I held that post for 14 years. One would be right in saying I have a vested interest. That aside, I welcome this funding. I concur with what the Minister said in his conclusion about the scrutiny this budget Vote gets annually. I am a member of the Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine …

On behalf of the Fianna Fáil group I also wish to be associated with the acknowledgement of the great life of Vicky Phelan. I am cognisant of the fact that it was Vicky's wish that on her death she would not receive tributes from politicians but that we would instead take actions. I hope that we can continue to take the necessary actions to right the wrongs that caused Vicky to come to notoriety initially. Other than her own campaign for and with the cervical cancer issue she was an inspiration to people in general…
