On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 43 of 1,065 decisive votes (12 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Active Travel

Will the Minister update the House as to whether he is aware of the uneven allocation of funding for active travel in 2024 in Cork city? For the fourth year on the trot, active travel funding is skewed between the northside and the southside and, once again, the northside of Cork city loses out.

Active Travel

This is the fourth year that I have raised with the Minister the uneven allocation of funding between the northside and southside. People may think it is still funding being spent in Cork but if people come from the constituency that I represent, they can see the disparity in the funding. This is a serious issue that goes to the heart of the neglect of the northside by this Government. All we are looking for is an even distribution of funding. I will give an example. For this year, €16 million has been provided for…

Does the Minister not accept that receiving half the same funding for four years on the trot is not fair on the constituents I represent? I have spoken directly with the NTA where I have raised this issue repeatedly. I have also raised it with Cork City Council, and I understand it is the council’s job to bring these projects forward, but the people I represent do not see any fairness and do not believe they are being treated as equals. On John F. Connolly Road and Kilmore Road in Churchfield and Knocknaheeny, resp…

Accommodation for International Protection Applicants: Motion [Private Members]

I was out canvassing during the week, and I knocked on a door and met a gentleman I have known, along with his family, for years. He said the Minister and his Government are making him a racist. This man was never a racist. He was a hardworking man who raised a good family. He never had an issue with refugees or asylum seekers. He has an adult child who has a disability and he has had to fight all his life for services for his child. Tragically, his wife had two strokes last year, and she cannot get a medical card.…

We are not going to the right at all. We have to deal with people on the ground. I will not have that said.

Pre-European Council Meeting: Statements

Can the Minister of State see the water in the bottle I am holding? It came out of the taps in Cork. People across Cork city have had brown, dirty, black and discoloured water for over a year. Would anyone let members of their family, including their kids, drink this water? The worst thing about it is that because it is not so black or brown, older people, children and vulnerable people drink it by mistake. They do not take the time to examine it. If you turn on your tap, you have the expectation that you are drink…

General Practice and Local Health Services: Motion [Private Members]

I commend my party colleague, Deputy Cullinane, on bringing forward this motion. Unlike this Government, he has his finger on the pulse. If the Minister of State were to ask him about out-of-hours services in Cork city, he could tell him they were not functioning as they should. The Minister for Health told me on 29 February that he was not aware of any reduction of out-of-hours GP services in Cork city. This is extremely worrying because it has now been proven beyond a doubt that SouthDoc in Blackpool has again sh…

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

The Tánaiste might remember in 2020 and 2021 SouthDoc Blackpool was closed. After a strong campaign by residents on the northside of Cork, it reopened later in 2021. At the time, the HSE said the closure posed a serious risk of unnecessary presentations to acute hospitals. More recently I have been contacted by constituents who told me they cannot see a doctor in SouthDoc and staff have also told me SouthDoc Blackpool is closed in all but name. On 29 February, I asked the Minister for Health whether there was any i…

Housing Targets and Regulations: Motion [Private Members]

In the middle of all the statistics, targets and missed targets of this housing crisis, it is very easy to forget about real people and the real trauma they are experiencing. Just this morning, two people contacted my office. One was a mother with a four-year-old child who is couch surfing in her family's home because she cannot find anywhere to rent. She is on the social housing list. She said it is very hard because every day her daughter is coming to her looking for playdates and sleepovers. How can she provide …

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

Last week, there was a very serious incident in Kilmore Road, Knocknaheeny, where over 100 young people gathered in a planned way that, I believe, the Garda knew about in advance. A car was crashed. Two people were taken to hospital. The car was burnt out and then fireworks were set off. Some of these were aimed at the emergency service and gardaí. There were only five gardaí at the site. No arrests were made because the gardaí did not have the back-up. At the same time, in my own GAA club, St. Vincent's Hurling an…
